Officially Sleeved on Sept. 26th

Recommended Posts

I'm am officially sleeve and am looking forward to being the best loser that I can be! I am new to the forum and learning how to use all the features so please be gentle with newbie. I am a 43 y/o with high blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid deficient and epilepsy diagnosis. I am 5'5 and my highest was 218lbs before starting this journey. I put this adventure off until this year because when I originally started it last year my husband of 4 years passed away and I knew it would be too much to deal with.

Oct 2012 my physician started me on Victoza. My HgA1c was 6.5 and we wanted to try to get the number down. During my follow up in April 2013 my number went up to 7 and Metformin was added. That day I committed to WLS. I contacted my health plan and started the process. It was somewhat fast tracked because I participate in Weight Watchers at work so I immediately satisfied the 6 month dietician consult. I selected Dr. Colleen Kennedy at Baylor of Dallas and the process was extremely smooth. Her staff basically schedules everything for you!

The two week liquid diet wasn't bad but it was tricky with my sugar levels. I was excited the day of and things went smoothly. Surgery took about an hour, I woke up in recovery then was taken to a very nice suite. My nightmare was the nausea which hit me about 5 hrs after my procedure. It was bad. They gave me Reglan, Pepcid & simethicone (gas x) via IV. It would work for 2 hrs, I'd move and I'm back queasy. It was a rough night. Friday I was sent for an upper GI to make sure that nothing would leak from my new stomach and the iodine mix immediately made me sick. Once that would not stay down I felt so much better. My entire stay I did not have insulin or diabetes meds so I am seeing the benefits already.

I am happy to be home. Children's Tylenol works great. I have Rx narcotics but I'm not a fan unless it is absolutely necessary. They did not weigh me when I left so I will hold anticipation until my follow up in 2 weeks. So, I'm sure that I will have a zillion question and will ask for advice as the days & weeks go along!

Hello everyone. Tomorrow, I finally have my surgery consult so I will get my date tomorrow. I am so excited. I had to go through so many changes to get to this point. I have noticed a few things which is the Isopure Protein Drinks, certain flavors cramp my stomach. Has that happened to anyone? I am pre op so this can be a problem post op.

Hi I am new to this also!! Surgery date Dec 6 13!!! Finding issues with pre made Protein shakes making me sick!!! So excited u are doing well!!

You may have a whey allergy or intollerance. GNC sometimes has samples of Protein powders that you make up yourself with nf milk in a blender so you can try them without making a huge investment. If it's the whey that's making you sick you will need to use soy-based protein products. I purchased whey Protein powder shake mixes online from The Vitamin Shoppe website. Both the Syntrax and Dynmatize Elite brands work for me and I like them. Best of luck to you.

thanks so much for the advice it is greatly appreciated. I went to the place I looked at soy protein powder and the only reason why I stayed away from it was the sugar was twice as high as the way protein. And that concerns me. My issue now is I am really trying to watch what I'm eating and trying all these different type of Protein Shakes and I feel like I'm all of a sudden gaining weight. It's strange

Sorry if my writing seems off I am doing voice texting. I'm wondering if my issue is the premade shakes. I just tried a packet of WHY Protein in 8 ounces of my unsweetened soymilk. Didn't taste bad at all will see if my stomach can handle it and I and up running to the bathroom later. If not then maybe the powder is the way to go. I have tried the drink inshore and that seems to work for me.

Horrible this is happening to you but at least I know I'm not alone. I can't stray far from the porcelain throne after my Protein shake. I'm preop and am on a supervised diet. Having one Protein Shake a day is a requirement. Ugh.

Wow just one a day most end up with nothing but shakes for 2 weeks before surgery. When is your surgery? I am now trying all diff shakes to see what might work. I might have found taking a probiotic helps. Nice to meet you.

I also had my sleeve on 26th! Struggling with the liquid diet, my brain is telling me I need proper food, even tho I'm not the least bit hungry. Craving slow-cooked beef casserole of all things! My friend had her op on 13th & she's already on soft foods. My dietician said I'm on purées next, but I can't wait for soft foods.

I'm in Australia, so we talk in kilos here and I'm already 5.4 down in a week, so very happy with that (I think that's about 12 pounds?).

Good luck with your journey!

That's fantastic Tracy!!!!!! I am in ft lauderdale, Fl. I have IBS and also think that's the issue. Keep your head high and keep telling yourself you don't need the beef. Have some beef broth and see if that helps your craving.

I have one shake each morning and the rest of my day is like Atkins. But small portions. For three months. But that daily shake tears up my tummy. I'm gonna try it with kefir next. Both Water and nonfat milk were so disgusting, then add on top of that the diarrhea. Omg.

I already take protonix twice a day for IBS and GERD. I didn't have any problems til these shakes. I guess this is how I'm gonna lose preop weight... Running to the restroom all day. Lol

My surgery is hopefully in December.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
