What are you doing to prepare for your surgery?

I heard the pain pump is awesome because it localizes the medicine rather than other delivery methods, like pills. I think my doc uses a pain ball or something like that (I may have the name wrong) - i can't find the thread. It slowly deflates and releases the medicine directly into the abdomen.

Better living thru chemistry is motto when it comes to pain!

My husband and i are getting sleeved tomorrow! we could eat a big Breakfast but have been on clears all day- im starving!!! As far as prep tho..... Our doc makes you do south beach all along but the week before surgery you have to go back to phase one.... Needless to say i'd give anything for a whole wheat turkey sandwich right now;). Good luck to all the other "preppers" out there!

I am too!!! Good luck tomorrow!!

I had a hysterectomy last year and my nurses never set me up with a pain pump. I did not insist on it, and I regretted it in the middle of the night. Not good.

This time, I'm begging for a pain pump full of Percocet!

But to the original question...I've started to try to have dry meals. It's hard to not drink for 30 mins after tho. I have some samples of powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury, Isopure, muscle milk, and have some more from another company coming this week. I've got broth and sf pudding/jello.

I'm also doing a pre, pre op diet. Doing 5 days starting tomorrow. The real pre op will be 10 days plus one day of Clear liquids after. I don't get my dietary guidelines until the 11th. It feels like forever tho, which is why I'm doing the trial run pre op diet.

I am out 5 weeks so i am stepping down things, diet wise, a week at a time. Stopped caffeine 2 weeks ago. Started sipping my liquids in stead of gulping. This week. The next 2 or 3 weeks, depending on final surgery date, reducing calorie intake.

I have started walking more, trying to get a little fitter before surgery and trying hard to follow post op eating habits. I have also been really trying to recognize and counter my head hunger and my habitual eating. Those 2 are the toughest for me by far, but I will succeed and over come those.

It will take me some time to over come 30+ years of horrible eating habits but I look forward to changing them forever!!!

Thanks for the reply, Chris. We about a week apart on our tentative surgery dates!

I'm worried about the coffee (as I sit here with my second cup)! I plan on starting to cut back this week and maybe switch to hot green tea or something like that. I'm going to ween myself off the java.

I hope this upfront work we are doing will make the recovery and subsequent diet changes easier.

Good luck!

Butter,

I think the biggest issue with the liquid diet is the caffeine withdrawal. When i read about everyones headaches, etc. I knew what was causing it. Its why i decided to get that part out of the way first!!

The rest of what I am doing is to lose a little weight and to get my body ( and mind!!) adjusted to a different style of eating... trying to break bad habits and create new ones before surgery. My thought process is to make the transition to my new life easier on my body, mind and spirit.

I never realized how much food ran my life. Everything has been about food. What and when am i going to eat. Where can I get that? How can I make that? I i know i am an emotional eater but I am a habitual eater as well. Its these habits I am trying to break ( or at least start to break) before surgery!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
