Hello Everyone! My name is Lynette. I am from NJ. I am preop. Surgery date November 19th. As I sit here at an outpatient lab, I start reading this thread and everyone's response. I feel the excitement running through the thread. I dream of the day where I walk for exercise. I haven't exercised in decades. What is the best way to start? I AM so proud of all who can exercise for so many miles!! Good luck to you all. You are my role models.

How do you feel about walking? Can you do it comfortably? If so start planning a daily walk...or 2. I have days where I don't have time for a long workout but I can squeeze in 2 shorter ones. Gradually build the distance each day or week. Don't do too much the first week, just ease into it slowly if you haven't worked out in decades. Good luck.

Just log your miles as often as you like. Everyday is fine if you want.

Hi Lynette: welcome to our crazy little tribe! I would add to Patrick's suggestions that if you haven't already had you pre-surgery cardiology work-up that you get that done before embarking on an exercise plan that involves anything you would find strenuous, even if it is just walking. Also start very gently. When I first started using an elliptical machine I could only handle about 5 minutes. Now I can go about 45 minutes but it took a long time to get there. Patience is important in the beginning. If you have joint pain then pool exercise might be a good way to start. Walking laps in a pool is a good but gentle workout. Whatever you choose to do it's all good!

Happy hump day everyone! Hope everyone had a great day. Been busy today with the wife. She was discharged today and is now home and resting comfortably. Soooo....I have been repaying my debt to her. You see, I have had 9 surgeries since we met 15 years ago. This is her first. She has babysat me thru 9 so I am taking extra good care of her on this one. She deserves it! Thank you everyone for the well wishes and prayers. She says Thank you!

As for my walking, I was able to do a total of 3.05 miles today which puts me at 5.82 miles total. Not as much as I want to have a this point but best I could do so far. BUT...I just finished checking my tires and everything on my new bike that I haven't had a chance to ride yet. I will be breaking it in tomorrow for a few miles. Great job everyone for what you have done so far. Like I said, it doesn't matter if you do 1 mile or 20 miles a day, just do what you can. It is not a race. And drink your Water, water water!!!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
