Banded Friday Jan 19th

Recommended Posts

You need between 45 and 60 grams of Protein a day. Adkins is almost universally available. That drink has 5 g sugar and 20 g protein, plus it slides right through. I don't do Protein Bars because I'm only 8 days out of banding. When you can have thicker Soups, try adding dried milk to boost the protein of a Soup like potato.

hello I am excited about my surgery. I hope the Surgeon calls me on next week with a surgery date. The office called me on last week and said they reviewed my chart and will be writing my orders for surgery. Has anyone used the magic bullet and is it helpful?

Deb...

I was banded by Spivak on the 19th too! I was his second surgery that day. I was in the OR by 8:30, out of the hospital by noon. No complications, everything has just about healed, and I feel GREAT!!! I took my stepson out for Mexican food today and ate refried Beans, but I couldn't resist trying to eat a chip and did that with no problem. Dr. Spivak is my hero!!!

I use the Magic Bullet and love it! I have made pureed Soup, pouring in a regular soup, and then I store the mixture into 4 oz storage containers (zip loc has some disposable ones). I also use my magic bullet to whip my Protein drinks. I mix chocolate unjury powder with skim milk - yummy! I've also added a 1/4 banana to the drink and that is delicous too.

Can imagine doing this post op diet without it. It has all the attachements you need and clean up is to simple.

Hello Ladies ~

My name is Lynn and I was banded by Dr. Spivak on 1-12-07 at Park Plaza Hospital. I LOVE him too! I was hoping I could find a group of Dr. Spivak's patients . . . Let's all stay in touch.

I am feeling fine, but not feeling any restriction after my swelling went down, so I am anxious for my first fill week after next. I am ready to lose this weight!

Have a good Thursday.

Hi Lynn, I am in the same boat with you - losing restriction. I have scheduled my first fill for next Monday. I lost most of my weight in the first 2 weeks, and lately don't feel full after 1/2 cup food. Then about an hour or 2 after eating, as I drink more Water I began to feel hungry again.

I want to keep restriction and not worry about eating too much or stretching my pouch.

Do you think we should start a new thread on this messageboard for Dr. Spivak patients banded in 2007?

Hi Terry,

I would love to have a thread for Dr. Spivak's patients . . .

I am 3 weeks post-op today and have NO restriction. To make matters worse, I bought new scales last night and they show me about 10 pounds heavier than my other ones . . . Talk about ruining your day. I have been moping around all day! :phanvan

So, I called and scheduled my first fill for next Thursday. The incision around my port is still pretty tender, but I don't want to continue feeling like I am wasting time on this journey. Since I was self-pay I don't want to feel like I just threw all of that money away . . . .

Lynn

Hey I think starting a thread for Dr. Spivak patients is a great idea. I will go do that now. I will put it under General Lap-Band Discussion. Hope to see you all there! I am being banded on Monday by him. Yippee! I will soon officialloy be part of the group of banders. Come and join the thread.

Take care,

Kim

Julie - I think you are right about weighing at the doctor's office. I was totally caught off gaurd by my immediate gain with the new scales and it ruined my evening and most of today too because I felt like I was doing so well.

I am really going to work hard to stay off the scales for a while. I have never been a fan of them, but unfortunately I seem to be a slave to them.

Lynn, just to give you an example, my home scale said I weighed 237 and when I went to the doctors office I was 245, 5 lbs more than when I had my fill. I am addicted to weighing myself because I feel like its a check and balance. I try to get into my doctors office every 6-8 weeks to weigh and their happy to do it for me. Good luck.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
