So how much weight are you supposed to lose the first month? I hear people are losing up to 30 lbs in the first month. I've only lost 12lbs so far and I don't know how to feel about that.

I'm 2.5wk out and lost 10.5lb when I don't include my pre op diet. I think everyone is different. I also know usually when you have a huge number loss the next week is usually low.

Think of it this way. Would you have lost 12 pounds in one month without the sleeve? It's a loss whether 12 or 30, it's better than nothing or gaining. Don't compare your loss to others. That will just frustrate you. We're all different.

Hang in there! You're doing great!

Feel great about it! Everyone loses at a different pace. The minute you start comparing your loss to those of others you will come out on the short end of the stick. Don't go there, it's destructive to your mental attitude.

As long as you are following your surgeons and NUT plan, and I'm sure you are especially this early out, your body won't have a choice. It will come off. It didn't get put on in a month and it won't come off in a month. People tend to drop large amounts more rapidly when there is higher BMI. Slower, the lower your BMI is.

Celebrate that you have taken this amazing step toward your health and well being and let your body do the losing.

Hang in there, it will get better and better each week and month. :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
