I don't know what you posted, it just has an x. If you are wondering about self pay experiences in NE Ohio I might be able to help you out.

I went to St. Vincent's Charity in Cleveland. Dr. Hassad was my surgeon. He was great. I had surgery on 9/11/13. The price was 15,450 for the hospital stay, 4,000 for the surgery, up to 3,000 for anesthesia (mine was 1400.) and then $30 per nutrition appt. and I forget how much for the support groups. Plus the $300 non refundable program fee. Those fees include any complications related to the surgery for 30 days.

I actually initially looked into going to Dr. Zogafrakus in Akron (he was highly recommended by a nurse friend of mine), but when I called and said I was self pay, I was told they didn't accept self pay patients. A few weeks after I entered the St. Vincent program and payed a deposit, Dr. Z's office called to set something up with me. I told them it was to late. :(

My surgery went smoothly and I haven't had any real complications (just nausea probably allergy related). One complaint I had with St. Vincent hospital was the issue just after surgery. They apparently couldn't find a bed for me. I was in recovery 4 hours AFTER I should have been because of the bed. They didn't even tell my husband or son what was going on either. They were just left waiting in the waiting room. And the nurses I had acted like that wasn't an unusual occurrence.

I wish I would have at least considered price shopping now that I have read how much other self payers paid :/ I trusted St. Vincent because that is where my mom went and she didn't have any complications.

So yesterday was 3 weeks post op and Im down 19lbs from my date of surgery.

Dr. Hassad, Jen (my AWESOME nutritionist), Latonya (my patient advocate), and ALL the staff at the St. Vincent Center for Bariatrics were amazing and I have received top notch care from their office.

Anyway, I hope you find a program that works for you :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
