stall correlated to lack of protein

Recommended Posts

i have pretty much not been losing weight the same as i was in the beginning. I am only 6 wks out and trying not to get discouraged. I keep fluctuating between 287 and 290. I do not do everything perfectly and do not mean to imply that I do but I certainly eat significantly less than I ever have in my life. I eat less than my 8 year old, I am constantly wasting food. I have been bouncing between these two weights for 3 weeks now, and I noticed just recently that now that I am eating food I have pretty much stopped drinking Protein Shakes. I am supposed to be having 2/day based on my current diet plan. I started having one a day and then before I knew it, I wasnt drinking them at all. I wonder if this might be having an effect on my weight loss. It seems to me like it should be 2-300 less calories a day but I wonder if the Protein has some fat burning property I was unaware of?

In order to continue to drop weight you need to remain at 600-800 calories a day. I feel like thats the most important thing to keep losing. All those calories should come mostly from protein.Eggs, fish, steak, ground beef, lentil, beans, shrimp, greek yogurt ,cottage cheese and cheese sticks. You need 75 or more grams of Protein a day also important. Drink 64 or more ounces of Water a day. When I dont drink water my weight stalls, I think because the body cant remove waste without enough.Take your Vitamins daily to keep energy levels up. Try to exercise 3-5 days a week. Measure your food and blog it in myfitnesspal.com. It allows you to see daily protein intake ,calories, carbs etc..Measuring cups, spoons and a scale are also very helpful. Good luck on your journey :)

You need your Protein and mariamitani is right most of your food should be coming from protein. You are basically starving yourself and your body in reacting. In addition lack of protein will also result in more Hair loss. Hang in there and get back to your Protein Drinks and branch out with the types of foods you are eating. You didn't mention exercise if you aren't getting any than start with some biking, or walking maybe a gym membership if you don't have one. I hope the scale starts going down for you soon! :)

My mother had the sleeve October 2012, lost weight for four months, suffered a serious physical trauma that left her hospitalized for six weeks and in a wheelchair to this day, and ended up regaining all but 8 pounds of what she lost. Let me tell you, she was depressed and I was scared to see that it was possible for the sleeve to only work for a few months. She was reluctant to talk to her surgeon's office about it, sure they would blame her for every time she had a snack food or, like her primary care doctor, blame her for being in a wheelchair and not trying hard enough to walk again! She was so sure it was because she had junk food a couple days a week or because she wasn't getting enough exercise because that's the conventional wisdom. But I finally just called the office myself and after they spoke to her last week, they told her they don't care about anything but that she gets her Protein in. They don't want her to count calories now, or watch carbs or work out, just Protein. That was less than two weeks ago and she's lost eight pounds, after doing nothing but gain for months. Just by changing protein!

So I don't know if protein has a mysterious fat-burning quality but it is definitely a stall-breaker. It's funny because before I had surgery I knew we had to get a lot of protein but the only reason I was given was to prevent hair loss and other signs of nutritional deficiency. It wasn't until AFTER surgery when I found out that getting a lot of protein along with drinking a lot of fluids can help you lose weight. I had a long stall after about 9 weeks or so and I noticed that I generally got between 40-50 grams of protein a day, which felt like a lot for me. But when I went up to 50-60 the scale started moving. Now I'm close to the 75 per day that my surgeon originally asked for and I think things are going better. 64+ Fluid ounces is also critical. In fact, more than 64 is really better.

My surgeon and nutritionist told me anywhere from 600- 1400 calories, I average between 800 calories to 1200, I was sleeved 6/19/13 and lost 95lbs so far, I slack off on drinking water and went into a stall but I'm back drinking at least 62oz of just water, I drink no carbonation of any kind, the food I eat contains protein in it, if it has none I don't eat it, the only walking I do is when I shop or mow the lawn, but I do go on long bicycle rides of 15 plus miles.

Protein is the building blocks for muscle. Muscle burns fat. Its an awesome mechanism. This is why protein is very important in weightloss

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
