Does it hurt to get a fill?

Recommended Posts

Does it hurt to get a fill? Needles don't bother me. I am the kind of person that does better if I know what is going to happen but wonder if it is painful?

One thing you need to know about me is I'm a complete wimp about pain. My pain tolerance is VERY VERY LOW. In fact many family members and a few drs have mocked me.

And I can tell you from my experience...a fill does not hurt. It's more of a tugging I think. Like Jack, my dr doesn't fill under floro. He feels about, gets the needle in place, it's a weird feeling when he sinks the needle into the covering on the port. He draws all the Fluid out, then either puts back in a smaller amount or puts back in more depending (I've had both fills and unfills). It feels WEIRD cuz you can feel that Fluid going in there.

But hurt? Nah. Easy peasy.

It feels like it does when you have your blood drawn.

I get my fills done under floro but I don't look. I usually put my hands over my eyes that way I don't panic about he size of the needle. It helps me. My doctor had gotten it on the first try (thank god)

i have had two fills - the first time the doc used the numbing agent and that actuallly stung a little but the fill part did not hurt. the second fill was done by a different doc and he did not use the numbing agent at all. i prefer the second technique as there was no pain at all just a weird feeling of having a needle hang out of your body while he gets to the right fill level.

I just had my third fill today! No pain. Like someone else said...it's basically a "pinch" and doesn't feel any worse than getting bloodwork done. You had an IV put in for surgery, right? Well, you survived that and this seems less invasive to me because you can see them doing the IV whereas a fill is on your belly and you basically lay there!! You'll do great! Don't worry!

I am looking folward to my next fill. I like seeing the flouroscope of my band in place (no slip) and the right amount of restriction. No guess work as to how much to add.

I nearly passed out the first time I tried to have a fill, but not because it hurt! I was just so nervous about it hurting!

You have very few nerve endings on your belly, so add the numbing agent to that and you really don't feel a thing!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
