Worried about staying hydrated

Recommended Posts

I'm 3 weeks post op and am getting into going to the gym but I am having a hard time getting all my fluids in daily as it is so I'm almost scared to go to the gym and work out for fear of getting dehydrated, any tips or insight?

I went and bought a water bottle specifically for my workouts. I fill it with Water and a little crystal light peach Bellini and take around with me during my workout. Sip between sets and every few minutes of cardio. Sip, sip, sip!

It can almost be a full time job trying to get all the Fluid in post-op. I try and keep a drink with me at all times, and in the beginning as soon as I woke up I made sure to get in as much as I can before I "started" my day.

Good luck, it will get easier as time goes on.

What are you doings t the gym? If walking etc then it's all good but at 3 weeks, no weights. I know that's not what you asked but just being a worry wart :)

Hydration is a tough one. Takes my constant attention and I know I no longer get 64 oz no Mayer how much I feel like I try.

I posted about me not drinking Water and the forum attacked me. guess what? 4 months after surgery: 58 lbs lost, all my blood labs came back excellent! and STILL not drinking all that water.

Glad to hear you are doing well. I am constantly trying to find liquids to consume other than Water. I've never been able to drink much water. For whatever reason, I just don't like the taste. I count everything liquid I put in toward my 64 oz. and still fall short.

I recently found diet lemonade at Chick Fil A. I now buy it by the gallon. This has helped with my Fluid intake a lot. Still short, but doing better.

I've also found Water to be "harder" to get it all in. I stock up on Vitamin water zero or Powerade zero. A few carbs, but I count them. Thankfully, I'm able to average about 80oz. a day. But I am also able to have a drink in front of me all day at work. I try and stay diligent with it for a number of reasons... to aid in my weight loss (of course) keep my skin hydrated (gravity and age already have a jump on me) I don't take in a ton of Fiber, so I want help keep things moving across the board. I did nto keep track of my Fluid intake before surgery, but I can say honestly, that my skin has never been better overall, the loose skin from the loss is going to be an issue, but I can only do my best at that.

G2 Gatorade! i mix it 1/2 and 1/2 with Water and drink it at least once a day...I experienced dehydration only once and felt horrible so even now after 10 months I still drink a 1/2 bottle every day.....It really keeps my skin from pinching and I don't worry about hydration..

I used to drink a lot of Water and I mean a lot..Cannot drink that much anymore so I take that as a preoperative measure for dehydration.....I drink 3 30 oz bottles a day of water but that is nothing compared to what I used to drink....

your body rejects the water at first and you use the bathroom a lot but as your body gets used to it it uses the water and it hydrates your entire inner city...after all you are 99% water.....( I used to drink 3 or 4 liters a day )

This is that is in debate all the time..That's okay with me..i did what i did as my choice.....Do try the G2 every day though...K

I would also like to suggest power aide drink as it has electrolytes and no calories. Drink as much water as you can if you are working out. 90 ounces a day is a good starting point. Drink before, during and after working out. Try and reduce your caffeine Intake in order to reduce the loss of water and Calcium during the day. Drink when you are not eating. If newer out, you will need to play with 45 minute wait periods. However, you can wait far less between eating and drinking once you are far enough post op.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
