Any Younger Bansters Here?

Recommended Posts

Hi Marissa,

I'm 26 and I got banded at 24 years old. I had a baby at 25. So, I have more weight to lose. But having the band has helped me stabilize my weight better. Good luck to you in your journey:)

I don't follow anything like I should. I eat whatever I want, I just watch not to over eat. I try and stay away from candy but it was impossibale for Halloween and having a 7 year old. I try to stay away from soft drinks, I only drink soft drinks when I go eat out somewhere and they don't have ice tea.

I know I can lose if I am not eating half the amount that I use to. I don't ever say I am dieting anymore, because I don't. The band has helped me with Portion Control. I don't eat Breakfast because I am too tight in the morning and not hungry, but I do drink my coffee with Equal.

I don't exercise like I should because I workshift work and it is hard to stay on a schedule, so I do it when I can. I should be at goal for sure by now if I would have exercised daily but I am happy with the way things are going.:)

I also stay away from bread and rice. I eat Pasta every now and then but not often. My band does not like those things...lol. For the first few months I watched a little, I tryed to eat a veg with my meals but now I know I am not getting enough Protein with what I am eating. I need to order me some more Liquid Protein. Weight loss has slowed down and i think it is because of my protein intake. Hope this helps.

Hi Marissa,

I am 22 years old, and I was banded when I was 21. I don't think that you are too young to have the band. My doctor says the younger you are the more of a chance that you will lose a lot of weight. Keep up the good work!:clap2:

My doctor saysthat the younger you are the less likely you will be to have excess skin after you lose weight. So far for me this has been true, because I dont have any..still got some fat, but not loose skin..well except in my chest, but when you jump down so many cup sizes what else can you expect? O btw Im 22

If I may ask, were obese as a child tifferoni? I agree that the younger you are less likely to have excess skin because skin is more elastic and resiliant when we're young.

I think another factor though is how long the person has been overweight. For myself I have been obese since I was 5 and have been 200lbs+ since I was 12 so my skin has been stretched and has stayed stretch for a good amount of time. I am guessing that I will have excess skin, although I would love not to. It's a very different situation if someone gained a lot of weight in the past couple of years than someone who has always been big.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
