Louisianagirl 0 Posted March 3, 2007 My doctor told me no alcohol for 6 months post-op (I think that it has more to do with becoming sick from drinking too much bc throwing up increases the chance of a band slipping). My doctor too said that but it was because the first six months they want you to focus on losing most of your weight. As long as I am losing I will do it 1-2 times a month.lol
snowangel 0 Posted March 18, 2007 Hey I am another young bandster. I am 22 and having the surgery in a week. I am so scared!!!! My husband has been very suportive, my family has mixed feelings about it. I guess my worst fear is not losing weight. I've gained 80 pounds in the last 7 years, and I am about 140 pounds overweight. UHHH, I hope this works!!!!!!!!!!!
kyethra 0 Posted March 18, 2007 One thing my surgeon mentioned as a pro for the band was that is was reversible. Say they come up with something even better in five or ten years- something just great. He said rather than just waiting for that and gaining weight he said that band was a good way to go cause if something better does come along you can always upgrade, so to speak, with the band, what with it being reversible. So if it isn't just right for us and in 7 years something that is better is developed we can go ahead and get that with the band. With the bypass thats not really an option due to the whole permanent nature of things.
bwaydiva 4 Posted April 7, 2007 Hey younger bandsters! How's it going? How's the weight loss? I get banded in only a few short days. I'm very excited. Hope you guys are doing well.
LFERLAND 0 Posted April 7, 2007 I am 25 and very happy I have done this. I heard all my life things like: "just stop eating", "all you have to do is exercise" or "have some will power". If it was all that easy then we would all be thin!!! I am proud of you for trying to improve your health. Good luck.

Annabelle12 0 Posted April 7, 2007 I'll be 23 in May, and I don't have a surgery date yet, but I'm working on it. I also noticed there weren't many younger people here. I don't mind either way, but it's nice to find a few close in age!

sweeTHEArt 2 Posted April 11, 2007 I'm 24 so I think (and no offense to everyone else who responded) I probably am closest to your age range. I think that the lap band is a great decision. I know what its like to be overweight in your early 20's as I'm sure a lot of people do. I think its better to get this when your young. Think about how many life stages you have had to miss out on or experience in a lesser way (prom, dating, the bar scene? etc.) this will change with the weight you lose. You will be "normal" weight and that will greatly impact your life. Plus the younger you are, the easier it is for weight to come off more quickly. You have your whole life ahead of you and this is the perfect time to do it. The 20's is a time (for most) in your life when you can focus on you without having to worry about juggling so many other obligations like kids, morgages etc. I highly recommend this and if you ever want more support feel free to email me. I would be happy to discuss more with you about my journey even though it only began about a month ago. Best of luck!!!
RowdyReptile 2 Posted April 11, 2007 actually this is funny. I got banded on 3/16 when I was 29 and turned 30 9 days later during my recovery. My thought was, "I'm not going to go through another decade being fat". I have to admit, going through my 20's banded would have been a blast....actually, it was a blast anyway. The way I look at it is, you'll only be in your 20's once...so if getting banded and controlling your weight will make you happy, go for it. BTW.. I love to exercise and play sports and could still never get my weight under control. I am a chronic overeater, can't control my portions, kind of dude. Even with dieting, your still going to lose weight and gain it back almost everytime. The band doesn't let you eat like that. Also, I had no ancillary conditions with obesity, but older members of my family are loaded with Type 2 diabetes, hypertension, obesity, and heart problems. There is no way I was going to let myself go that route. My decision to get the band was also for preventitive reasons as well (since I was turning 30). Anyway...that's my story..
