time4me2013 20 Posted September 27, 2013 I was sleeved on the 16th and am having really hard time getting Protein in. The shakes I liked pre surgery make me gag. I only get about 20-30 grams a day. I don't want to lose my hair. Any ideas? I also take two small pills a day. The doctor says to crush them for three weeks. Does anyone know why? I'm tired of the chalky, nasty taste. I don't know what harm it could do to just take the pills.
mlowell 39 Posted September 27, 2013 I had some Body by Vi shakes from a previous weight loss trial......so I drink one in the morning with 3 scoops of Protein and 8 oz of soy milk (24g). I drink one nectar pack in the afternoon (24g protein) and one 15g drink in the evening. Do you have any of the Nectar? My doc's office carries the product in the office and I really like the Caribbean Cooler......tastes like a Pina Colada to me You have to find some sort of protein that you like. Are you at least getting your fluids in?
southernsoul 773 Posted September 27, 2013 pills & particles can get stuck & cause problems with the new seam sewn in your stomach. If the doc says crush them, I'd keep doing it. As for Protein, ask if you can have skim milk or kefir (liquid yogurt). Both have good protein & the kefir also has good bacteria for your system. I was also allowed to add some NesQuik No Sugar Added chocolate mix-in to the milk to help the flavor. Good luck to you!

I have tried shakes and the Protein Shots, but I can not keep them down

I have been eating Activia because I've been having bowel problems, but the protein amount isn't wonderful. Also, Nesquik is a good idea as well. Thanks! saralyn4 5 Posted September 27, 2013 I have also found it difficult to get my Protein AND liquids in each day due to the constant full feeling. Here are a few Protein drinks I've liked so far. The Isopure has 40 grams a bottle (I don't try to drink the whole bottle in a day though!) and the smoothie has 15 grams. I know you can buy Isopure at GNC, the smoothie I got at my doctors office so I'm not sure where else to get it. Both have a good taste and different flavors. Also, I used a cup of Isopure to make my Jello during my liquid diet. Also try adding non-fat dry milk to Soups, etc for extra Protein. Best of luck 1 NMJG reacted to this

Best of luck I actually o have some non fat dry milk and hadn't thought of adding it to Soup. That sounds like a great idea. I see a lot of people on this board don't have a hard time getting protein in and I am so jealous. Every bite and oz is a victory and not nearly as much as it is supposed to be. saralyn4 5 Posted September 27, 2013 I hear you! I'm at the point where I'm just trying to come up with ways to add a little in here and there to try & reach my goal. Once you get to more solid foods, I've heard it's easier to get your Protein in just by food alone. I'm hopeful!
lsereno 2,525 Posted September 27, 2013 Greek yogurt has 23 grams of Protein per cup. thin with Water and add a sweetener. I like Splenda, but many people like the sugar free torini syrups. NMJG 1,266 Posted September 27, 2013 I found that savory Protein was easier than the sweet shakes. I used low fat buttermilk, unsweetened kefir, blended cottage cheese - just added some seasoning to it to liven it up. A plain glass of nonfat milk does wonders, too. Good luck to you. We've all been there. Gamergirl has some good recipes on her blog, too.
squawprincess_2013 14 Posted September 27, 2013 I liked the Unjury before surgery, but hated it afterwards. I drink a bottle of Isopure between Breakfast and lunch and a half bottle between lunch and dinner. So I get 60 grams in from that plus my egg, Beans, meat, cheese, etc. A friend recommends EAS from Walmart. She says it's cheap and she likes it. I'm not a milk drinker of any kind, so not really hot on anything that's shake-like. I may try a bottle of the EAS just to have a break from the Isopure. Hate Isopure green tea, but the other flavors aren't bad. They are expensive at GNC, but my local grocery has them at 3.99 a bottle. I stock up.
Macy6 356 Posted September 27, 2013 you are only 10days out don't be so hard on your self. I didn't even attempt Protein until day 11-12, I completely stuck to Water. I started adding in once I was released to soft/fork mush and I have had absolutely no issues since. Anyway I really like greek yogurt with half a scoop of unflavored Protein Powder. Bumps it up to over 20g of protein. I am 4 weeks out now and easily get in 80-90g of protein a day. 1 Rach34 reacted to this
