My situation

Recommended Posts

My insurance requires I have 6 consecutive visits with my family physician to be weighed every month. I am current weighing under 2-3pounds weight difference. Just those couple of pounds can make ineligible for the surgery. Today I am bloated and I weigh perfect weight for surgery. I have to for 6 straight months of being weighed. If I lose one pound it kicks me out. Do you have any suggestions on what I can do?

Thank you,

Jennifer

Jennepen,

Most insurance companies go by the weight on your first visit to the doctor. They tend to not penalize you for losing weight on a 6 month diet. To be sure that you won't be excluded if you lose too much during this period, verify it with your insurance company. You might ask them to give you something in writing so you know what criteria you have to meet and don't have surprises down the road.

Good luck with your weight loss journey. The six month period will go by quickly.

I have Health Net California. I was told they only go by the first weigh in. I would not be penalized for loosing weight. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed, 3more weigh in's left.

I asked my surgeon's office because I was in the same boat. She told me that it's a possibility I can get denied if I go under the BMI and I also heard they go by the original weight. I never got confirmation from the insurance company because I didn't lose.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
