How much is too much soup?

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I am 7 days post-op and just started a "full liquid" diet. I tried Tomato Soup, which went great; however, how much of it is too much? My doctor said when I start soft solids I will only eat 2-3 tablespoons at first, but liquids don't apply to this rule. I don't want to overeat but feel like I could eat a little more. I've probably eaten a little more than 1/4 cup so far.

I freaked because at 1 week post op I ate a quart of egg drop Soup in 3 hours. But the doc said it was totally normal. Liquids usually slide right through.

Saralyn4: I ate about 1/4 cup which was advised to me by my doctor . It made me feel full as well so it depends but I would think no more than 1/2 a cup. If you feel like your going to fast slow down .

i got nervous because i could almost eat a whole serving of one of the premade Jello pudding cups, but a half of a dannon light and fit yogurt filled me and i can't eat more than like 1/4th cup Soup. but i realized i was eating it too fast. so i slowed down the next time i ate it i felt the feeling.

Thanks everyone. I think I was eating too fast. Next time I will slow it down. Just something I will need to learn to do now!

I've wondered that too a_jap21. I will graduate to puréed in 3 days so we'll see how that goes. My doctors recommendation for puréed was 2-3 tablespoons.

What is it? I'm always looking for new ideas to get some new favors! I had cream of wheat today and it was pretty good. I probably ate 5-6 spoonfuls.

When on full liquids, I could eat a whole can of Progresso Tomato Basil in a day. Usually in 1/2 cup portions. If I never see another cup of that or split pea again (4 wks on liquids) it'll be too soon...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
