I had my surgery on Oct 15 at Hopkins Bayview in Baltimore, MD. Oh yeah, and I'm gay. And gay married. And gay HAPPY!! :D I'm about 40 lbs down, with 80 more to go. I'm still on my post-op full liquids, but I'm doing great! No complications, and I'm off the pain meds and walking the neighborhood.

Ren!! How in the HELL did you lose 50+ lbs in FIVE weeks!?!?!?

I'm down 52 TOTAL pre and post op, but only 22 in four weeks post surgery. I'm workin my ASS off at exercising, and following doc's /nuts orders to a T.

You look great.

Benjiboi ~

Thanks a lot for the compliments! I've really just stuck with everything the doctor has said, we'll besides when I snuck in that Almond Joy lol. It was a miniature one, I swear!!! I walk an hour a day and use the exercise bike at home one to three times a day for 15 mins at a time. I just got a membership for the YMCA here in Albany, New York and I'm going to go there because they have a pool and that's really the best excercise and way to tone. I lost 52 so far after surgery and 20 before surgery. I also only drink Vi Protein Powder with milk, Vi is AMAZING!!! I swear by it and it's great! You yourself are doing great! Everyone's different. I will recommend the Vi Protein powder. I just started the walking a full hour a day and exercise bike this past week.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
