banded one week - no restriction

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I am new to this site and find it very informative. I am one week postop and on liquids only. When I have my broth, Water, Protein Shake, I don't feel like I have any restriction, that I could sip, sip, sip and sip some more. Am I to feel any kind of restriction at this point?

I found that if I sipped on liquids all day, Crystal Light or Water (64 ounces) that it helped a lot. I am 16 days post op and still have restriction. I guess it is just different for everyone. I am barely able to get 1 cup in of creamy Soups at on time.

You haven't had any fills yet, so I doubt you would feel any major restriction. Right now, the band is basically sitting around your stomach, it hasn't been tightened yet.

I only had restriction for 1 week and then I was starving. So what you're feeling is normal. I didn't have much restriction until my 1st fill.

It is totally normal to have no restriction with an empty band! Especially while you are in the Clear Liquids stage, they just flow through and dont do much to help you feel full. It gets much better when you can have fuller liquids, the pureed Soups actually will seem quite filling.

Liquids just flow through the stomach. You shouldn't have any restriction when you are still on full liquid. When you add Soup and other thicker liquids you will notice some difference.Good Luck

Hola,

Well I am just over a week, and started on "soft" food on Friday, I thought I had no restricition since Soup, yougurt, oatmeal, everything was flowing fine and then tonight I decided to try some chicken (roasted very moist) and let's just say found out I definately have restricion! I won't be doing that again anytime soon. I would say I had my first stuck food. Yes my Dr does have chicken as a O.K food for week 2, and I am sure I ate more than I should have. Let's just say I have learned my lesson, you do NOT want to do that! leave it up to me to test the waters ;0

Saraincincy ~ Dr. R. Walker Byars in Oxford, MS did my surgery.

Everything has been super easy with recovery. That's why I was concerned about the liquids going through so easy, maybe too easy! I'm only allowed to have Clear Liquids and Protein shakes for two weeks. Then I get what I think is referred to as full liquids for two week: creamy Soups, puddings, yogurts, etc.

There is no restriction until you start to get fills. I would call your doctor and see how fast you can get a fill. Mine was 6 weeks post op. By then you'll be on solid foods and may want more restriction. Good luck.

You are so normal. I did not have any restriction until i had my fill. I am 2 weeks out from my first fill and can eat more than I should so i am going tomorrow for my second fill.

Hi there,

Dr. Byars did my surgery too (12-28-06). After the first few days I really didn't feel like I had any restriction either. I am now on full liquids and still haven't felt any real restriction, but I have noticed that I don't eat nearly as much as I did before my surgery. I go back to the Dr. 2-20, and I am hoping that he will give me my first fill then. Thus far I have lost about 15lbs.

higgij ~ I had my surgery 1/15/07... today's my one-week anniversary! I think I'll Celebrate with... hum... broth! Ha! I go back to see him on the 31st for my first followup.

Including the two-week liquid diet, I have lost 17 lbs.

How long did he have you on Clear Liquids and shakes before he let you move on to thicker liquids?

Congrats on the 17 lb. loss!!!! He had me on clear liquids 2 weeks prior to surgery then 2weeks after surgery. I saw him on 1-16 and they said I could go to full liquids. My next appt. is not until 2-20 so I think at that point it should be mushies/soft food. I am curious as to when I will get my first fill.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
