Hi sleevers- I was wondering how long after surgery did you have any alcohol and what the experience is like.

Thanks

Everyone has different guidelines. Two days post op was my birthday and I was still in hospital.. My dr said I should have a little 'tipple' to celebrate.. I just stuck to Water but you'll hear a lot of varying answers. I'm 7 months post op and enjoy occasionally.

I got sh*t faced 7 weeks out by accident, it for sure hits you A LOT harder than you would imagine. If you're going to drink, try a small sip first, I also tried drinking a shot at 5 weeks and it burned waaaay too much. everyone has different opinions on alcohol

I have the occasional small glass of wine that takes me an hour to drink or a 1 oz. shot of vodka (which I sip over 1/2 hour). No adverse effects and I haven't gotten tipsy from it. That small amount once a week or so is fine for me and I figure it into my daily calories, too. I'm dying for a cold beer, but even a sip of carbonation makes me ill now. I don't recommend alcohol for everyone.

I drink a few glasses of wine a week and sometimes some JD Honey. My biggest issue is if I drink to much then the headaches that I get the next morning are some of the worst I have ever had so I try to stick to a single glass.

Wine is a little acidic and may cause reflux/heartburn ...

Every surgeon seems to have a different opinion on the subject of alcohol consumption. My surgeon said 6 weeks. Some say 6 months and some are firm on never.

I would highly recommend you do not do that right now. You are way too soon post op. Your stomach is not anywhere near healed and no good can come from that right now. You must concentrate on hydration this soon and wine will only hurt that goal.

I waited 5 weeks before I had any. I would recommend following what you Dr. says. I on the other hand did not as they said you should avoid it forever. AT 5 weeks I had no issues having a small glass of wine.

Small glass or two of wine @ 6-7 weeks. Bit burny going down. Dr said I could resume "normal" drinking 3 months post op. Its so high I calories so I just save it for special occasions now and a bit more often now I'm @ goal. I do not get drunk quicker but I sober up faster.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
