wannabthin1 2 Posted September 25, 2013 Hi sleevers- I was wondering how long after surgery did you have any alcohol and what the experience is like. Thanks
sanks51 214 Posted September 25, 2013 Everyone has different guidelines. Two days post op was my birthday and I was still in hospital.. My dr said I should have a little 'tipple' to celebrate.. I just stuck to Water but you'll hear a lot of varying answers. I'm 7 months post op and enjoy occasionally.
SeriouslyChange 319 Posted September 25, 2013 I got sh*t faced 7 weeks out by accident, it for sure hits you A LOT harder than you would imagine. If you're going to drink, try a small sip first, I also tried drinking a shot at 5 weeks and it burned waaaay too much. everyone has different opinions on alcohol
NMJG 1,266 Posted September 25, 2013 I have the occasional small glass of wine that takes me an hour to drink or a 1 oz. shot of vodka (which I sip over 1/2 hour). No adverse effects and I haven't gotten tipsy from it. That small amount once a week or so is fine for me and I figure it into my daily calories, too. I'm dying for a cold beer, but even a sip of carbonation makes me ill now. I don't recommend alcohol for everyone.

indecision 863 Posted September 25, 2013 I drink a few glasses of wine a week and sometimes some JD Honey. My biggest issue is if I drink to much then the headaches that I get the next morning are some of the worst I have ever had so I try to stick to a single glass. newat52 1,613 Posted September 25, 2013 I am 5 days post op and would really like to have a few sips of wine. Do you recommend i not?? Every surgeon seems to have a different opinion on the subject of alcohol consumption. My surgeon said 6 weeks. Some say 6 months and some are firm on never. I would highly recommend you do not do that right now. You are way too soon post op. Your stomach is not anywhere near healed and no good can come from that right now. You must concentrate on hydration this soon and wine will only hurt that goal.
indecision 863 Posted September 25, 2013 I am 5 days post op and would really like to have a few sips of wine. Do you recommend i not?? I waited 5 weeks before I had any. I would recommend following what you Dr. says. I on the other hand did not as they said you should avoid it forever. AT 5 weeks I had no issues having a small glass of wine. SleeveNZ 219 Posted September 25, 2013 Small glass or two of wine @ 6-7 weeks. Bit burny going down. Dr said I could resume "normal" drinking 3 months post op. Its so high I calories so I just save it for special occasions now and a bit more often now I'm @ goal. I do not get drunk quicker but I sober up faster.
