2013 November Sleevers

Recommended Posts

My surgery was on Thursday and I'm doing pretty well. The only problem I have is a little pain when liquids try to get in my stomach. But it is very short lived thankfully. No other major pains and I have hardly used my pain meds.

Great to hear you are doing well. I am really scared about the pain, I have a low tolerance for pain.

Congratulations, Goldilox! At two weeks and you are already on the treadmill. That sounds terrific. I am hoping for the same fast recovery time. My surgery is 11/26 and I'm on pins and needles. Anticipating it very much, scared a little. Guess that's pretty normal, eh?

I was sleeved on Thursday, November 14th.

I'm pushing fluids, but it isn't easy - I take a sip every 5 minutes. I'm allowed three thinned out shakes, so I stop sipping 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after the shake (NUT's order). I'm also allowed 2 T. of applesauce, Greek yogurt, sugar free Jello or sugar free pudding (one of those options per day). I have selected applesauce both days and it takes about 30 minutes to get that down. Again, nothing 30 minutes before or 30 minutes after.

The pain really hasn't been that bad - most of it is the gas and I feel that in my chest and left shoulder. I have taken 3 pain pills since surgery, so I could sleep.< /p>

I've been walking a lot - I got in 8000 steps yesterday. I'm not fast and people were getting mad at me at the grocery store last night, but I don't care. I'm vertical and that is what matters to me.

I have gone thru moments of "Why did I do this?" to "I'm so glad I did this!" Much like I did prior to surgery.

Hello - I am new to this site - my surgery date is this coming Friday, Nov. 22 at Cedar-Sinai in Los Angeles - looking forward to sharing experiences here! It's my 7th day of pre-op diet (my authorization was delayed, so I started about 2 days late) - the first few days were rough! But now much easier, thank goodness!

Happy Monday!

Had my surgery the 18th ended up an extra day in hospital cause I couldn't pee on my own and the the extra day I developed a fever. At this point I regret doing this to myself. I got discharged this evening and feels good to be in my own bed. Has anyone else noticed excessive sweating a few mins after taking pain med? Also plan to shower today I know I can remove the bandages but not the white strips. Did you remove bandages before or after shower?

I'm home and just resting. I haven't ventured to the shower yet (gross) but I was told to leave the bandages on until Saturday. I have clear bandages over gauze.

I've read a lot of stories where people have regretted their decision in the following weeks after surgery. I think we all need to remember our reasons for doing this. We want to be healthy and needed help to get there. Don't lose focus. We can all do this. There will be hard times but in the long run I believe it will be worth it. Hang in there!

CHALLENGE! November sleevers! http://www.dailymile.com/ is a great website where you can track your mileage that you walk/run/bike/etc. I have created on challenge on this site for just us! I challenge YOU to walk/run 365 miles before december 1st, 2014. That is one mile a day for a year after our surgery!

I have made the challenge 'invite only' so you will have to add me as a friend on dailymile then I can invite you! It's a great way to encourage everybody in exercise in addition to eating. The challenge says NOTHING about being a sleever, so you don't have to worry about privacy issues. What do you all think?! Feel free to ask me any questions!

My surgery is the 26th....I decided to try a liquid diet this week, even though I am allowed cottage cheese/lean meats/veggies as pre-op. I wanted to see if I could do it and also lose a few more pounds before surgery. It's going pretty well, but I must admit I can see where wanting something to chew and/or savory will really become important. It's true that I've slipped a few times, though I feel pretty OK about clam chowder! Anyway, meal prep sure is fast!

I also realized, which may be obvious to some, that post-surgery, I will need to come up with a lot of activities that are NOT food centered. Even poking around on Pinterest and other sites for bariatric-safe recipes focuses a lot on FOOD and feeds that gratification. I can tell that I will need to really be out and about so that I am not tinkering in the kitchen, even if it's fixing "safe" food. It's all about obsession.

I am anxious to be done with it and on the other side. Hope I will recover quickly, don't have any awkward moments of explanation required of curious friends/coworkers, and can just slip into the groove of maintaining a healthy life. I already feel SO much better having lost about 24 lbs pre-op and have been exercising for months. Looking forward to more of that.

Thanks for listening! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
