So, I'm one week postop and I have been very good for the most part when it comes to not eating anything but Jell-O or chicken broth. Today I got to start cream type Soups – cream and mushroom, Cream of chicken – that sort of thing. I forgot until now that I was also allowed to go back on my Protein checks. I don't know if I'm going to pay for this but, I hoping that I won't. I don't know if any of you live around Central to South Texas but there's a restaurant here called Bill Miller's – people typically like their fried chicken or brisket or things of that nature. I couldn't obviously get any of that but when my father got some chicken, -where would I… I got a couple of small slices of roasted turkey. I didn't anticipate eating both slices but, I made sure that I cut them up small and shoot them about 1 million times before swallowing. I did eat 2 tablespoons of mushroom Soup to go along with it just in case but, I really felt like I needed protein. For the past week or so I felt dizzy and sometimes I had to catch myself to avoid falling. I understand the importance of following the diet and being strict about it but, I feel like I tried to make a good choice for the situation. Any thoughts?

No not a good choice girl. One week out, your stitches can let loose very easily. You have to give your stomach the time it needs to heal....Your body cannot handle solids yet either because the acids that break the food down has not come back yet....

Please don't play with your sleeve and eat stuff that can harm you right now....We want you to succeed!! Lastly we don't want you to get a leak by stretching out your sleeve before it is healed....K

Dizziness is a sign of dehydration. I have had to go in 3 times for IV fluids, so I do know about it. Drink Drink Drink, the good H2O. but if you are already dizzy and if it is worse when you go from sitting to standing or laying to standing, you are already behind…. Go Ask for IV fluids….I had them last week 2 liters….

:o

try some G2 Gatorade and mix it 1/2 and 1/2 with Water and you will be able to keep hydrated that way.....k

You're right, I know you're right. I won't do it again. I guess I just had to tell somebody. I'm just trying to take care of myself.

Get tip on the Gatorade thing, my doctors office didn't say anything about that as far as being able to have it. They actually specifically said no Gatorade even when watered-down yes that was my typical trick. I researched these doctors and have looked at them fully for several years but, I guess I'm not one of the lucky patients that they had because they haven't really come on over things very well and they say one thing and then something different so I'm getting a lot of misinformation.

Did they give you a reason for no Gatorade? That just seems like a weird protocol unless its a sugar thing ( in which case G2 should be OK). I'm a big Vitamin water/life Water fan, so I wonder if your doc would OK those.

Yum, Bill Millers! :) what area of Texas are you from? I'm near Corpus Christi...

Anywho, about a week after surgery I felt like you, just had the need to chew something. You have to remember to take it slow though and give your tummy time to heal. Start drinking your Protein shakes and getting your liquids in and you'll be eating "real food" before you know it! My craving was more for chewing than anything so I also started chewing sugar free gum again. It helped a lot. Good luck to you!!

I love corpus! I love the beach – I'm originally from California but I live in San Antonio now. Honestly, It wasn't an issue of chewing something but rather more of an issue of feeling like I needed the Protein. According to my diet, I wasn't allowed a Protein shake yet and I guess I should've just chanced that instead of having the turkey but I was trying to do the best I could with what I had I guess. We were already out and I had to pick up medication and I thought that if I shredded it enough that it would go in with the broth decently.

The positive thing is, I moving forward with the diet. I thought I was still stuck on liquids today but I wasn't. There's a lot of confusion with my doctors office and I'm in a get it clarified on Thursday all I know is I don't want to have to go back to the hospital. My pain medicine haven't been working very well – I think because I don't have food to help digest them – only liquids and, that's not helping my normal pain let alone the new surgical stuff. I'm on high doses of Norco – Vicodin and – and I take two at a time multiple times a day on top of other medications and it's my big fear that they were just sitting in the pit of what's left of my stomach and forming an Ulcer. Plus, if they have to give me fluids, I have to Though have to go for a central line. They couldn't get a vein. Getting dizzy and lightheaded and having to grab things for support is not good. I know I shouldn't have eaten it – I wasn't craving it – actually 99% of the time I'm not hungry in the first place. I just thought that the Protein would be positive and hopefully help. I'm crossing my fingers and praying that the meat didn't cause any problems. I'm hoping I would've found out hours ago. I really did try to do it the best way possible and to avoid problems. I really need to understand why we can't eat some things but not others. I'm know each doctor is different though.

So you fell off the wagon, that's ok. First couple of weeks it's important to follow orders but just as long as you get right back on the wagon. My thing is that if you deprive yourself completely then when you do "fall off the wagon" your going to fall hard and probably do more damage then if you just messed up one small time. But then again that's my opinion.

I'm wondering about the circles? As I read all I see is circles? Anyone else see the circles?

Anyway, I hope you find help with your food issues soon.

Well I don't know of I would consider this falling off the wagon.

What you did can be really dangerous.

In the beginning it's not about being on a diet for the sake of being on a diet to lose weight.

It's about giving your stomach time to heal.

3/4 of it was just cut out and then the remainder of it sewn back together. it is small swollen and fragile. You need to let that staple line heal.

I get the addiction to food thing, I do.

But now is not the time to make justifications as to why you needed to eat turkey.

If you must get nourishment do it with things that won't hurt you.

I wish you luck. And I would also suggest a counselor to help you with road to recovery..

I'm glad you mentioned gum because i was wondering if that would be an issue. Sugarfree of course, but I was wondering if after surgery the gum would increase gas in the stomach or not and if it is ok to chew gum while on your liquid diet.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
