Lifting restrictions after surgery

Recommended Posts

Just wondering what everyone's restrictions were after you had surgery and for how long? I have a 16 month old and a 4 year old and am interested in what my limitations will be with lifting the baby. Thanks so much in advance for your help! I'm scheduled for Oct 2 and can't wait!!!!

20# for 4 weeks.... Which is today! Yay. I have been very careful but this past week I have not been as careful.

I also had a hernia repair, so may be different:

nothing over a pound of milk

no sex for 3 weeks

no swimming for 5

My surgeon told me no more than 10#s for 8 weeks. I also have a 4yo and it was torture not being able to pick her up for that long. We finally made a game out of it and she learned what 10#s feels like, which was good. We started guessing how much books weigh, how much her toy bag weighs, etc. I just sat down a lot and had her sit on my lap to snuggle more. She got used to it after about 2 weeks. She started saying "Mommy it's time to sit down and hold me". Very adorable ! When 8 weeks came around, she was in heaven when I picked her up again. Your 16mo old might be a whole different story since not as much comprehension of limitations. Good luck on your surgery, you will love the sleeve!

Every surgeon has different guidelines. You need to follow up with yours and your PCP to get a better understanding of their restrictions.

These were mine.

Max 10 pounds for first 2 weeks

Max 20 pounds for weeks 2 - 4

I was told nothing heavier than a gallon of milk post-op. My paperwork says nothing heavier that 20 lbs for the first 6 weeks.

I had recovery pain for the first 4 weeks. At 5 weeks I wasn't thinking and I pulled the coffee table closer to a sick son to reach his drink and ouch! I had a weird pain for the rest of the day about three inches above my belly button. It was gone the next day. But boy o boy, 6 weeks is a long time to heal!

Thanks so much guys!!! My 16 month old is 24 lbs and I'm a sahm so that first month should be interesting! I'm not worried about being at home it's just getting her in the car seat to take my older son to pre-school. Guess I'll need more help than I thought!

I had no lifting restrictions. I had a 2 & 4 year old and had no trouble getting the 2 year old in the car. I did convert the crib so I didn't have to lift her in and out, but no other issues. Ask your doctor what he recommends. Just like diet post op, every doctor has their own recommendations.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
