Having problems with retaining water and low bp!

Recommended Posts

I need help!! I had surgery march 2012 ! Everything was going great until I starting getting dizzy and my Bp was dropping when I stood up! I went to many drs which where I live no one knows about the sleeve surgery! I ended up at a endocrinologist and he put me on steriods and a pill to help me retain fluids! I have low cortisol now but the dr says its not from surgery, but having trouble trouble retaining fluids is from surgery and something called dumping syndrome ? I all self pay at this point I can't see my surgery which is 5hrs away from me! I'm very depressed because things was amazing and I lots around 100lbs now I've gained 20lbs back since march because I have to be on steroids and they make me eat more and feeling so hungry! If anyone could help me I would love to hear from you! I'm pretty much alone on this now! :( I'm using my phone to write this so please excuse this bad writing! Thanks !

Wow... I don't think this sounds right???

Do you experience dumping syndrome?

Dizziness happens to a lot of us especially transitional (from sitting to standing)

I try and drink a Powerade zero a day to get extra electrolytes and potassium.

If you don't currently use salt on your food you might try adding salt to your food. I prefer Morton's Lite Salt because it contains both sodium and potassium.

I would contact the surgeons office and ask for a referral to an endocrinologist. It will be worth it to go to one they refer you to, even if it is a 5 hour drive. Steroids are really bad for causing weight gain, and they can have a permanent effect on your body. Even if you don't want to get a referral from your surgeon, I would at least see another endocrinologist and get a second opinion.

I am with Laura. 'transition from sit to stand dizziness' (hydrostatic hypotension) is very common, BUT the pattern you describe is not normal. Please DO see a Doc that you trust. This Should be addressable...

Be wise and see a doctor you can trust.....I do have lbp and my PCP told me to eat more salt. I also drink electrolyte drinks that are low calorie to zero....it does help.... :P

Thanks everyone for you replies! I'm going to see another endocrinologist that's 2 hrs away and my insurance pays for! Its my sleeve surgery dr that's 5 hrs away! I'm in Florinef which helps me retain and helps keep my Bp up and I'm on steroids to help my low cortisol! I'm on salt tablets daily and I try and use salt on Everything I eat plus I try and eat like beef Jerky for Snacks low carbs high Protein and salt it higher! I'm concerned about not be able to retain fluids and I don't want to be on steroids! I've been weaned off them and was off for 8 weeks and started to lose weight than my Bp bottomed out and I got really dehydrated! Thanks guys ill be seeing my new dr soon and I'm focusing on drinks g2 and Water more !! I was wondering if anyone else had problem with a low Bp after surgery or low cortisol levels?
