Hi dears, I need tips and tricks for my Hubby, he's having his op early October, I need to know more about his status after the operation. Any nutrition or Vitamins required? facilities required @ home? entertaining ideas while in recovery? would you please help me out :))

YES, special Vitamins are required. Your surgeon or NUT should give you this info. Search for Protein suppliment / shakes that you like... there are a lot of them (minimum 20 gm protein and LOW sugars). A shaker. Unsure what else. The food plan needs to come from the surgeon - -all are very different.

Rest and relaxation! I had several things planned to get accomplished after surgery and I will tell you netflix and making sure I had plenty of Popsicles and yogurt was really all I cared about! I was sleeping a few hours every 2-3 hours and did so even through the night, I couldn't lay flat or in bed so my living room recliner and couch helped a lot.

It was hard at times to remember I just had major surgery but that few minutes of over doing it was a quick reminder!

Just be supportive and helpful, it frustrated my husband when I sat at the edge of the recliner for 10 minutes getting prepared to stand up and that I wouldn't take his help, he learned that sometimes I just had to do it myself. After his sleeve though, he took advantage of the help....guess everyone is different ;)

Good luck!

In the beginning, most doctors recommend walking, but he'll probably also need some sleep too. It's ok to rest to help your body heal. I'm sure if you really put your mind to it, you could think of some nice ways to keep him "entertained."

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
