Flying after surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

Can you weigh in on flying shortly after surgery?

I'll be flying from Chicago to Oklahoma City for surgery so only a 2 hour flight. Will be 5 days after surgery. My doc already told me to walk every hour to help with clots and will be giving me a blood thinner.

What I really want to hear though is YOUR story on flying. Was it miserable waiting to fly out? Awkward getting patted down by security? Any tips for me ?

Flew from SanDiego to Boston. No issues whatsoever. I got an aisle seat so that I could get up and walk frequently during the flight.

I flew about a month and half after surgery and was fine. I got a 11 hour tattoo 5 days after surgery. so I am sure a two hour flight will be fine. lol

I just flew to Mexico on Sept 12th and had surgery on the 13th from St Louis. The return flight was fine. I was tired so I slept a lot. I did get up a couple times and walked to the bathroom. I had no problems with blood clots. Did feel great to get off the plane. Good luck to you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
