Turning a corner with hair loss?.

Recommended Posts

After over 2 months of steadily losing hair, washing it today I realised that single strands were coming out, not little groups of hair. It wasn't blocking the bath and when I brushed it out, there was way less hair coming out...

I know, that was today and tomorrow might see more Hair loss. But I will take every little victory and today, I am smiling :-))))))

Yay! :-) that's great to hear! Hope it continues to improve

Do you think the lack of enough Protein might account for some of the hair loss?

The hair loss was hard! Even though I knew it was coming it was always my best feature :(

So it devastating to see it everywhere but my

head!

I was so happy when it finally slowed down.

At 10 months I can't say it's all back but it's looking a bit better.

Oh I took all my supplements and protien :)

Not in the way people think. Apparently the shock of the surgery followed by even a brief period of very low Protein means hair loss for many of us is unavoidable. If there was a way round it, we would all be buying the lotion, potion or product to stop it/cure it :-))))

But eating good Protein, taking Biotin etc means that when hair grows back it should be healthy and strong. Stress doesn't help so I have tried to be chilled about this and it seems a small price to pay for the all the good that has come as a result of being sleeved.

Good luck come your surgery date, not long now :-)

Laura, my hair was my best feature too. But that was when I was 86lbs overweight and when I was known for buying handbags and shoes - but only because I couldn't buy the clothes I wanted. So my hair was central to how I felt about myself and how I looked.

Strangely, as much as my hair is still important, it feels less so. Maybe because I have started to like the rest of me a bit more :-))))

Congratulations Indigo, that your on the other side of Hair loss now. It is my biggest post-op fear. I had a heart-to-heart about it with my gentleman friend last night, and he was supportive as usual. He is such a gift! My surgery is closing in on me, and I had to let him know what was coming before he found hair all over the house. I am going to ask my surgeon Tuesday morning about the Biotin and all that stuff, but I know with my knower that he is going to say it is inevitable to one degree on another. I give you all the scoop tomorrow when I get home.

Honestly, This IS something I am not looking forward to. I know it's coming...just don't want it to. I've also heard there is a time where you get bad breath and really bad BO. Just not wanting to deal with the "bad". :(

SleeviePete, believe it or not, the bad breath is a good sign - it's usually a sign of ketosis when your body is burning fat. I know it sounds awful, hair loss, bad breath etc but you will get through it, we all have. And it is all worth it...

Miss Mac, good luck with your surgeon!

Lol when you put it all that way it's sounds so bad!!

I didn't notice bad body odor or breath (lol hope nobody else did either) but these things are so minor compared to all you will gain from this surgery :)

I don't feel like I'm going to die from a heart attack at least once a day anymore!

Oh and I occasionally sneak in the juniors department to shop :P

Does EVERYONE get the Hair loss side effect? How common is that anyway? It seems to be pretty popular online...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
