Hello!

My surgery was on 8/6/13 and I am currently down 27.4 pounds. I am not sure if I am on target but it seems slow going. I lost most of my weight early on and have only lost a little over 4 pounds in the last month. Is this typical?

Im being honest here, I have struggled with the Protein and the Water intake, even though I love to drink Water. I just cant seem to get it all in. I have been experimenting with just about any kind of foods and seem to be able to eat most things, just not too much of anything at once. I have had some foods I shouldn't, but even though I dont think I have consumed more than 1000 calories any given day.

I have had drinks containing alcohol a few times. It doesnt seem to bother me or affect me different than before.

My family are big beef eaters and so I have ate ground beef a few times, I havent had issues with that.

I havent exercised much due to the fact that I am prepping my house for moving and that is a lot of physical activity. I am tired as can be at the end of the day.

So, looking at this, there are many areas I can improve on, but I am just living my life as normal as possible and not constantly thinking about the sleeved stomach or when to eat. I would appreciate any feedback and advice.

Thanks All,

Joan

First, congratulations on your weight loss and being sleeved! I have kept this link for some time...talks about tracking your percentage of weight lost to determine if you are on track to lose all your excess weight http://www.dsfacts.com/weight-loss.html

Being almost 8 months out of surgery and getting closer to goal, I would say I have bounced around between 45-90 grams of Protein on any given day. Huge range there I know, but some days, I just didn't get to all the Protein I wanted to. Still today, there are not many days where I meet or exceed 1000 calories. But the one thing I will swear by is MyFitnessPal.com for logging EVERYTHING I eat and drink. Through this site, I have many "friends" and can see what they are eating and it's helpful to me to get ideas, etc.

Your weight loss sounds typical. I've had months where I lost 10 lbs and months where I have lost only 4. But the bottom line is that I lost every month. If I average all my weight loss, it is 7.5lbs per month. My goal is to lose 92lbs total, so I would expect faster loss if you had more weight to lose - slower if less. Of course there have been a few stalls here an there, but month after month, I am losing.

I too like beef, pork, chicken and fish. The only things I really cannot tolerate anymore is anything having to do with a potato. Go figure! Really try to stick to the lean Proteins first and fill in with veggies/fruit/carbs from there.

Your feeling tired was my main issue early on. After about 3 months, I started to feel less tired and was able to exercise at a more intense level. Keep up the exercise, you will be glad you did!

I have gone thru the same thing. What has helped me is Isopure drinks add crystal lite and it changes the flavor but now have no problem getting in my Water or Protein. Isopure has 40 grams of protein. I pour Isopure in a 32 oz bottle, crystal lite and add water to 32 oz. mark. Another is I take 1.4 c of fat free greek yogurt and a snack pack of sf vanilla pudding stir together and add pumpkin pie spice to add some more flavor. But try and stay with what the doctors tell you to eat so you won't harm your stomach.

I would start tracking everything you eat. That will help you see what you are actually intaking. From there, you can fine tune more Protein or Water or whatever you may need.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
