At florence today!

Recommended Posts

Hi all!! Just arrived at florence and I'm all settled in. Just waiting for surgery. Wifi works great and I can even catch a Tmobile signal from the US both here and at the hospital so no roaming for me!!

My friend who has Verizon and another girl with ATT can't get service from their carriers so they're roaming.

The hotel is GORGEOUS and the hospital is very nice too!! The rooms are dated but nothing concerning!! I'm totally at peace with my decision to come here!!

The pre surgical tests were very quick too, no waiting around for a bunch of different people.

So far.... Fabulous!!!

fantastic - I'll be there october 5th and thank you because you just answered a question I was going to ask about wireless signals. Couple of questions - who is your doctor? and what hotel are you in ?

I'll be thinking of you - please keep us updated !!

Is there a place to lock up your belongings at the hospital? I have heard different answers on that. Thanks as I will be traveling alone.

I just had surgery on the 13th. I was in florence Hosp and by myself too. There is not a place to lock your luggage up but I kept a lock on my suitcase and they close your private room up so nobody can get in while your in surgery. I had no problems at all.

Ok, thanks, I will be sure to get a good lock for my suitcase then. How are you feeling?

I'm feeling amazing. Have lost 34 lbs since Sept 1st when I started my pre-op diet. So happy that I did it. I never had any pain from anything, incisions, gas or shoulder pain. Dr Garcia and his team is amazing.

I feel that my belongings are very safe here. There is a closet in your room and they shut the room up when you're not in it. Plus it's like a little community here, everyone is so friendly and you'll get to know everyone on the floor.

So many wonderful things I could say!!!

Yeah the nurses were awesome, everyone was really nice and polite. No reason for concern about your personal belongings at Florence Hospital. It's a small enough hospital where no one is getting away with it anyways.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
