It's the little things......

Recommended Posts

Hi, I've read so many great posts about weight loss after the sleeve. I am wondering what has been the small thing or things that have changed since your surgery? Like having to buy smaller shoes, spend less on groceries, more on gas because you go out more. I haven't had my surgery yet I am just wondering what those "little" surprises are that maybe I can look forward to.

Thank you.

I get the hiccups when I'm full. As soon as I hiccup my friends and/or family fight for my leftovers!! LOL I also tried on boots today and was able to fit them over my calves!! I'm so excited to dress for the fall. Good luck this is definitely the journey of a lifetime.

Sleeved 8/12

Heaviest weight 248?

First weight at Drs office 236

Weight day of surgery 219.8

Current weight 198.2

I had a couple of little things today. 1) my pants fell off. Not in front of anyone but I absolutely had to wear a belt today and will never have to wear these pants again. 2) my shoulders were tight so I reached behind me with both arms, it was when I was several seconds into a stretch that I realized that my hands were clasped firmly and easily together behind me. 3) this was yesterday, but with my hubby down 82lbs and my 38 since May, well two people for in our shower waay easier, lol ;o)

There are so many things to look forward to, some times it feels forever before you notice anything new, then suddenly all sorts of new things crop up. So, don't lose heart, life is going to be so very much better.

Oh yes I didn't think about my calves shrinking (I have beefy calves lol). Hiccups? Hmmmm that does not sound enjoyable. Thanks for sharing!!

Haha I remember as a kid being able to wrap my arms around myself and pretend I was making out with someone. I sooooooo forgot about that, it's been so long since I have been able to do that! I can't wait till my pants are falling off. I think I will keep all my belts and just add holes to it so I can constantly remind myself of where I never want to be again! Thanks for sharing!

Crossing your legs, having someone put their arms around my waist, shopping in the regular stores like H&M, running, wearing a small, not being recognized, giving fitness tips yes people actually listening to my advice, compliments, feeling good, and lots more. The best decision ever made.

Once they see your results they listen and it will happen. It's almost like people start to see you for the first time or maybe you feel so good you start speaking up. Not sure what it is but it's like life is in color for me.

Crossing my legs, LOVE clothes shopping now, knees doen't hurt, I don't think about food all the time (lunch today was a piece of cheese, a few grapes and a slice of turkey and I was FULL), tieing my shoes without holding my breath, there are so many wonderful things!

BTW - I hiccup when I've eaten too much - wish I would hiccup sooner to tell me not to take that last bite! When I start hiccuping, that means trouble.

My joints no longer hurt, I don't worry about food anymore. If I want to eat healthy fat (avocado) or ( peanut butter) I have it. I don't worry about it. I enjoy food instead of dreading the guilt after eating. I enjoy the shocked look I get from people I haven't seen in awhile..Now that's a fun feeling!

It's nice to be able to enjoy food and not feel like I'm depriving myself

Your day Is coming.... As far as Portion Control goes that is the beauty of the sleeve you get full fast. If you eat or drink one bite or drink too much it hurts or is extremely uncomfortable. So I like to say we have built in portion control.. it is a awesome feeling!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
