my sleeve surgery 9/19/13

Recommended Posts

I don't think all surgeons use staples. But it's no biggie. They only stay in a week and it isn't painful at all when they remove them. Takes 5 minutes.

How is everybody feeling? I get to start blended food on Oct 8th. Can't wait!!

When I had my first surgeons visit on the 9/24, I asked him if there would be any external staples, and he said no. I guess they are all different. This surgeon, Dr. Bipan Chand was recruited to Loyola University Medical Center from the Cleveland Clinic last year, and teaches gastro-intestinal surgery and robotics. I know I will be in good hands. Don't know why they all don't follow the same procedures, but I guess we get similar outcomes. Good luck with your healing.

What's up Sept buddies? How is everyone feeling? What phase of your diet are you on? I am scheduled to start blended next week but jumped the gun a little today and blended some homemade turkey chili. It was awesome and I didn't have any problems with it. Have a follow up with my bariatric Dr. tomorrow. Looking forward to having something besides liquids next week! Since a week before surgery when I started my liquid diet I am down right at 40 pounds. Very happy with that.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
