I'm so hungry! 7 weeks post-op

Recommended Posts

I'm 7 weeks out and I am so hungry this week! I'm eating 700 calories, mainly Protein with between 60-80 gms of Protein. I'm being good about not drinking too soon before and after meals. I eat about 2 oz of protein at each meal and am eating about 5 times a day. I know some people don't feel hungry but I have felt real hunger at mealtimes since the second week. But over the last week or two, I have been so hungry. I eat my 600-700 calories and go to bed hungry almost every night.

My husband says this is because I'm losing weight again and not stalled. I have been losing half a pound a day as my hunger has increased (although my intake hasn't). Is that possible?

This is not head hunger. I would eat a dry piece of chicken or something completely boring just to fuel myself. I will take a PPI starting tonight just to ensure its not acidity but I have zero heart burn. Surely if it was acidity, I'd feel some burning, right?

I've lost 30 lbs so that's good, but I'm wondering what my calories should be right now? I'm now at 199 lbs. I'm just wondering if 700 cals are too low or just right for this time post op.

Well, sad to say, I am six months and yes, I get hungry too. Some are lucky and they say they don't get hungry, but I guess I am not a lucky one :( PPI's don't help it with me either. I just have to fight the good fight ;) Good luck :)

How many calories were you eating at this point, do you remember?

At two months I was consuming between 500-700 calories. At my three month check up, my NUT raised me to 1000 calories, but I generally don't make it to that. I usually take in between 800-900 calories.

I've been battling constant hunger also and am like you, 7 weeks out. However, I know for a fact mine is acid as I am familiar with this feeling from before I was sleeved. It feels like hunger pains, my stomach is growly and feels empty. I am not having any reflux with it, however. No heartburn or indigestion. I was taking Omeprazole OTC since the week before surgery, however I found it wasn't doing a lot for the growling as well as I don't really want to continue taking a med that is supposed to be time limited. So today I bought some generic zantac and took one and it seemed to quite my stomach (and my hunger) significantly. It didn't completely take care of it but I will take another tonight and am going to give it a week and see how it does and if necessary, I'll up the dosage since I know taking 150 mg 2x a day is just fine because I've done it at a Dr.'s instructions on and off for many years. Hope my feedback helps some. Oh! And I'm doing between 700-900 calories daily but losing super slowly. (or at least it seems like it. )

I feel this way as well but couldn't say what it is. I eat the hunger pains go away. I drink and they go away. So maybe I'm just hungry and thirsty a bit more. I don't have any way of knowing what is what but I do get heart burn and I know what that feels like without a doubt.

Hi! First, congrats on Onederland! I'm so happy your stall has broken!! In my opinion I think maybe you are eating too few calories. I'm supposed to eat 900 calories and 60 or more grams of protein a day (at 3 weeks out) I was exercising a lot and eating only about 500-600 and they read me the riot act last week. I still don't make it to 900 but I'm definitely hitting 700-800. Maybe just try adding an extra 100 cals or just something like a Protein Drink before bed? By the way, I feel hunger a lot but hoping it subsides some once I get off the dreadful purée stage.

My PPIs solvved my "hunger". I didn't feel acidy at all, just HUNGRY. For me, a glass of milk or a drink will cure it most of the time, too. At four months out, I am consuming about 500-700 calories a day and about 45 gr of Protein.

Babybel cheeses are an awesome snack for your stage and filling!

I would say that if you are losing 1/2 a pound a day, that there is little risk in increasing your consumption by 100-200 cal/day. Don't forget about fat. It is a macronutrient that's required as well as Protein. I know that we're always cautioned to limit fat, but I almost think that's because our eating culture goes way overboard with it. I think many of us limit it too far after surgery, but it plays a huge role in satiety. Also, there is no need to go to bed hungry. Have an oz of chicken breast or something shortly before you go to bed (just far enough before that it's not going to back up on you). If you're hungry when you go to bed, it might interfere with your ability to get to sleep. Also, if you have any issues with hypoglycemia, that last bit of Protein can help keep you even during the night.

A lot of good ideas have already been posted. There could be a million different reasons for your hunger sensations and a million and one possible solutions to investigate... Good luck and congratulations!!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
