little nervous

Recommended Posts

I am 10 months out from surgery and down 135 pounds and just found out I'm pregnant. I have to say I am just nervous about the weight gain and ability to lose post-baby. My weight has been pretty stable these last few months, so I'm not concerned that this pregnancy will be unhealthy for the baby but I also know I need to make some healthy changes and eat more. Just wondering about others in the same situation and how everyone is doing? ;-)

Wow! This may be your most eventful year ever! Long past offering any advice about pregnancy (I'm a great-grandmother) I did want to offer my congratulations on both the weight loss and the pregnancy. Talk about life-changing events! GOOD LUCK!

I think it is going to be like this for a while with the nerves. Lol. On a positive note at least we won't be due in the winter so we can get right out and be active with the babies!? I'm really freaking about the weight gain, it's been a nice ten months watching the scale go down...to see it move the other way is going to be rough!

There really isn't a minimum weight gain for pregnancy these days. As long as you're taking in calories daily and your baby is growing appropriately (your provider should do more growth scans than a normal pregnancy) then you're good to go. There are people who don't gain any weight and have healthy babies. So keep on with 64+oz of Water daily, and lots of Protein. A little exercise is good also. No worries! Enjoy this exciting time!

Thank you, I did talk to my nut...she expects me to eat a lot of calories and Protein. I guess I just need to get back to my protein all day. :-(

Thank you! Not far enough along to tell our friends yet, so it feels nice being able to tell all you sleevers here and know someone understands how I feel about the weight gain. :)

I'm not pregnant, but I was just browsing. And wanted to share that I only gained 2lbs with my second son and he was born a healthy 8lbs 7oz at 40 weeks! I was very sick with morning sickness and ended up losing weight, but gained the placenta/water/baby so it evened out.

So glad you could share it with us.

Although my baby factory was shut down almost 30 years ago, I totally understand how nerve wracking it would be to make sure you are growing a healthy baby without putting on excess weight.

You will just need to make sure what you are eating is going to benefit you and your baby. Then you won't have to worry about what the scale says.

I know, easier said then done.

Keep us updated on your progress, both of you!

I did talk t o my nutritionist and she gave me some guidelines to go by. I think it's going to take a lot of work to get all of my nutrients in but I'm sure I can do it...just need to refocus a little. :-) I was off track a little so I think this will be good motivation to be eating healthier actually.

I'm 31 weeks preg with twin girls and haven't gained a lb. I did lose weight since I found out I was pregnant. I got preg 11 months post op. I'm a little nervous my girls will be small but my doctor says they're growing pretty good. I have weekly check ups now. :) doc set my first goal reach 34 weeks. My second goal is 37. I better pass 34 cause my baby shower is at 35 which is the last week of the month lol. I pray my babies are at least 5 lbs + each.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
