Scared to death!

Recommended Posts

Great post. Angela, at 4 weeks, 4 months or 4 years we all have struggles. In terms of food and weight, the sleeve helps, but it's not a cure-all. And those facing other difficulties in life humble me.

In any case the sleeve and weight loss, weight maintainence, and weight control are neither automatic nor easy... but worth the psychic effort!

Thanks Arts137-I am leaning towards it being worth the psychic effort. This may be the reset button I need. I am sure it's not easy but then again that's why I'm here in the first place.

Thanks so much-Happy Monday! :)

Compared to giving birth to a child, this is nothing. Going through cancer treatment, I saw my mom and mother in law both do that, this isn't even even close. Laproscopic surgery is really something. I had my tonsils out not quite 30 years ago, to me, it hurt more. I had very little pain with this surgery. I only took pain meds after being discharged, at night for less than two weeks. The 'worst' is when you sneeze, cough or laugh. Have a pillow near-by and hold it against your tummy if possible!! Turning over in bed at night, wasn't comfortable, which is why i took the pain medicine at night. I sleep on my side, so I had a nice flat pillow to put under my tummy.

Wow! This forum is fantastic! Like I said before I wasn't telling ANYONE about this surgery. Now I know from being on here it is exactly what I needed. I really appreciate the advice and personal experiences-extremely helpful.. I do have a pretty extensive health history and when I weigh the pros and cons of doing this surgery, the list of pros is endless. It sure is a fact that the mind is a powerful tool. This decision was easier to digest the further out I was from my surgery date. I guess a lot of fear goes into the permanency of the surgery and the what if's....

I always compared things I have done in my life to my cancer and the treatments I went through for it. So every time I ask myself "is it worse or will be worse than that time of my life" or I woujd say "doesn't hurt as much as chemo". When I do that for this decision it seems like a no brainer.. One thing I was concerned about was getting all the nutrients I need due to depleting some being in this medical menopause. My doctor said that us a common concern with cancer patients who consider this surgery but like I mentioned before, fat produces estrogen so that definitely is on my mind.

Hey folks -this forum really helps with getting things out there, listening to others and trying to hammer it out from there.

From the bottom of my heart-THANK YOU!!!

Thank you for posting your thoughts. I am new to this forum and have my first appointment in 2 days. My parents are helping me pay for it since my insurance wont. I have been struggling with the same thoughts since they told me they wounld help me. I dont want to let them down but can I really get a handle on this addiction?? I thought I was the only one who looked forward to the food at the movie or other events. I can totally relate to your relationship with food and appreciate you sharing this so I can learn too.

This is a great forum :D

food addiction. I think that's what most of us have. There are a few here that say they were

never addicted to it. I even started a thread about it a long time ago to gather the thoughts of the ones that felt they were never addicted..

I'm an addict (still)

I didn't go very long through the day not thinking of food. It was and sometimes still is the first thought I have in the morning and the last thought I have before falling asleep. I would look forward to my alone time so I could eat (I was a secret eater mostly) I would eat normal in front of people for the most part but would make up for it when I had a moment alone.

And sometimes that meant sneaking real quick into the kitchen when no one was looking and stuffing something real quick to get a "fix"

The sleeve? It helps yes to to a certain point and when to eat the right foods.

That's why for people like me therapy is a must :)

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
