I was wondering if you folks who were on a cpap machine if you were able to get off of it after losing weight?

I'm still on my bipap, my doctor and I hope to be off my machine by November, December time frame. I will retake the sleep study then, to hopefully not have to use the machine anymore.

I was sleeved on August 26th this year.

I am not completely off mine, after 9 months post-op. But, I am able to sleep some nights without it and I've had to adjust the air-pressure down. If I lose another 20 - 30 lbs. I think I may be able to get off of it permanently.

I'm almost 4 months postop and I had to dial down the pressure on mine because of air being forced out the sides of my mouth. It was set at 14, I brought it down to 9. I don't know when a good time is to attempt a sleep study as I almost had to pay for the last one ($3000).

Saw the doctor the end of August. Am trying off the bipap, and will be tested to see if I'm getting enough oxygen. Waiting for my turn to use that machine at home and then the doctor will decide. I've lost 85 pounds, but he said weight alone is not the only factor. I have been on it since 2003 so I am really hoping!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
