Wait time?

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on 9/16/13, they told me I could walk as long as comfortable and to wait for gym type excercise / stomach work outs tell I hit six weeks post op.

I think everyone is different. My doctor told me that I would have to wait 4 weeks to go back to the gym and 6 weeks to go back to swimming. Check with your surgeon's office to make sure.

1) Walking, speed walking - after surgery

2) Light resistance training - week 4

3) Insanity/P90x type programs - week 6

4) Weight training - week 8

Hope this helps...the majority of us want to run before we walk. Take it easy...you just went through a major surgery.

Glad you're ready to exercise, but your doctor will give you the go ahead. I suggest taking walks until you're cleared. Remember you had major surgery. Good luck

My NUT and DR said I could go to the gym as soon as I felt ready, and just take it easy. They both said, Treadmill, Bike and Elliptical were fine. My NUT said I could get in the pool, but not the jacuzzi. Would love to hear from people that hit the gym early and at an easy pace and how many minutes they could do on a Treadmill or Bike. I figured I'd go and try for 10 min the first trip and then get in the pool (treading Water, not swimming).... would love input also.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
