Well I have taken a huge step. I have listed my food for the next 21/2 months. If its in my planner it happens. As I am writing it all down I know sugar free Jello and pops are unlimited. But is it really. I look at the diet and am concerned about the evenings. It's usually a really hard time for me.

Can someone clarify the process? Once u decide on the surgery with your doctor then what... Tests or a diet come next??? I gear people say 6 months supervised diet and others say 2 weeks... Very confused

My insurance required a six month supervised diet as well. My doc only required a 2 week pre-op diet and a 2 day liquid diet. I can't imagine doing a two week liquid diet. It was hard doing 2 days.

After the mandatory informational session, I met with the doctor, who gave me a shopping list of tests and appointments I had to get through......and I had to meet with a nutritionist 3 times during a 3 month period.....some people have a 6 or 12 month requirement (depends on your insurance)

once I got through that, we applied for appoval to the insurance, almost 2 weeks later, it was approved, and I was able to get a surgery date 2 weeks later.............the surgery date is dependent upon your schedule and your doctor's schedule.....your surgeon may not have openings for a month............everyone's experience is different......

I was not put on a diet by the nutritionist....we only discussed post op diet....the surgeon put on a 2 week preop Protein shake diet

If you haven't already, call your insurance company and get a copy of their requirements for WLS approval.......good luck!

I am 4 weeks out from surgery (Oct.22) and I have an appt. on the 10th to get all the pre-op tests and instructions. However this weekend I said goodbye to foods I liked. Hamburger with cheese and bacon and apple pie. Saturday I had steak, baked potato w/sour cream & Brussels sprouts. Sunday I had lobster bisque, fish, red-skinned mashed potatoes. chocolate cake & Hagen Das dulce de leche ice cream.

Now I am trying to follow the soft food portion of the post surgery diet. I want to practice getting 50 grams of Protein and 64 ounces of liquid in a day. This is my training for the actual new way of eating and drinking.

Anyone feel like they've been eating uncontrollably since deciding to get the surgery' date=' almost like i'll never be able to eat like this again so I should enjoy it now.

Still going through it? Snapped out of it? Please share your experience/tips on getting out of this mindset[/quote']

I actually stop at popeyes about two weeks ago. I did not feel guilty because I ate small portions and ate one bite of biscuit ...the rest went straight to the trash. I was so happy on my small portions. I decided to go walking and i love walking so much. I have not thought about any funeral food.

I have lost 15 lbs and I have 2 months to go. I've been eating my favorites on the weekends. Not every weekend though.

Pequods....mmmmmm!

My two week pre-op diet starts tomorrow. We grilled cheeseburgers for dinner tonight, I'll consider that my version of food funeral. I'm ready for this!

My Dr. requires me to do a 14 day liquid diet. This will be hard on me because state fair is coming to town and my son and I love college football games. No turkey leg. No funnel cake. No corn dogs. No popcorn. Whew! This will be the most greatest challenge I've ever experienced. I'm prepared for this game because I want to lose!!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
