Surgery Nov. 18 - the holidays

Recommended Posts

For those of you that survived the holidays last year, how did you do it? I will literally be on liquids for Thanksgiving. Not too concerned about that. But Christmas I'll be on soft foods and won't be at my house. I'm curious how you guys dealt with this.

Glad you asked this, I am wondering the same thing schedule for the Nov 18th surgery date. Not to mention my birthday is a week after, at least my husband will not to have to worry about taking me to dinner. haha.

Glad you asked this' date=' I am wondering the same thing schedule for the Nov 18th surgery date. Not to mention my birthday is a week after, at least my husband will not to have to worry about taking me to dinner. haha.[/quote']

I was afraid of being on such a restricted diet for the holidays so I did what I could to insure I would be able to eat soft foods. I hope there is some insight for you.

You will be fine during the holidays. You just have to plan ahead of time what to eat instead and be creative about it. You might think it will be difficult but when the holidays come around, you will actually find out that just looking at some of the food makes you sick not to talk of eating them. Good luck and God bless.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
