Do you tell?

I am wondering from people who have had the surgery and have found a partner after losing weight, did you tell your partner you had surgery and once were heavy? For those of you who have told, did it make a difference to your partner? I am just curious to see if the dynamic of "I was once heavy" is put out there, if people are scared you will gain weight again? It's very shallow, but I am sure this happens at times. Interested to hear what you have to say!

I met my husband after my surgery. I actually Made it a standard that we spoke on the phone for three weeks before we finally meet in person. And at the end of the three weeks I told him abut the surgery and the struggles I had and what I was doing to fix it. My husband is one of a kind and has supported me 100% x10 with my weight loss. I meet over a year after surgery. My advise is don't open yourself to people to much to sway your focus away from your goal.

I just started dating someone new recently. I am still on my weight loss journey. I told him that I had the surgery and that I'm still hoping to lose 50-90 more pounds.

I explained this all on our third date when it became apparent that we were both interested in seeing each other exclusively and cultivating a relationship. If I was not in the process of still losing weight, I would not have felt that need to inform him of this so early on and would have just mentioned it when the subject came up naturally... like when showing him old pictures of if he asked me why I eat so little... but since my body is still changing, I thought it best to clue him in early just in case he was a chubby chaser, because the LAST thing I need is to get involved with someone who WANTS me to stay fat!

I think full disclosure is important, but not on the first few dates. I think that if you could reveal the information in a light-hearted way it would be best. It might scare some people off, and that would be OK. It's not that those people are bad for fearing that you might regain the weight, they just simply don't know as much about the surgery as we do.

All good points!! It's always interesting to see how relationship dynamics change as a big lifestyle change happens.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
