Any sleever brides out there?

Recommended Posts

My fiance and I got officially engaged last night ( :) :) :)!!) We're so excited (this was a long time coming due to several obstacles) and can't wait to get started on the planning. Among the many things swirling about in my head at the moment is the dress. I'm 2.5 months post-op and down 38 lbs., which is enough that I can feel the difference but I'm not yet seeing it in clothes, etc. For those of you who have been through this and gotten married in the process, how did you approach getting your dress? It seems like we need to wait to see how much we lose, but also can't wait too long and risk not being able to get the dress in time. Advice would be much appreciated!!

Thanks :)

Hey! Congratulations!!!! Wonderful news!

I'm in the same boat. I had my surgery two days ago and I'm working on the basis of looking to find the right dress as I go (because even though I will lose weight, my body will still suit certain dress shapes because of my bone structure, so won't be too far off the mark) and will get it tailored with someone very skilled, right at the 11th hour.

I have a year or so to sort mine out, but I'm focusing on everything else that needs sorting first and leaving the dress thing till pretty much last.

Also, it helps on the money front, cause you can get dresses in sales and things like that.

Have you set a date yet? x

I'm in a similar boat, got engaged on July 13th, sleeved on September 3rd and am getting married on February 15th. I ordered my dress to weeks ago. I worked closely with the owner of the bridal salon and we pretty much had to guess what size gown to order. We agreed that I should order the largest size that it came in before plus size, so a 16. I have panic attacks every day that this thing might still be too small by the time of the wedding!

Laura-Ven, lol...you are ALWAYS a help :) And yes, we'll be getting married on a cruise that departs on June 29 (still trying to nail down the ceremony date), so I've got awhile still before I'll have to order something. Thus far the only real tip I've been able to find online is to order a dress with a corset style back, since you can cinch it up tighter if you need to closer to the date.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
