Honestly , I'm in nursing school so obviously not an expert ... But what you are describing for sure sounds like Fluid in your lungs / pneumonia type issues . It's always better safe than sorry ! When you have surgery you are at greater risk of getting respiratory infections such as pneumonia . Just go get it checked out !

So I just got back from the hospital.. Dehydrated, anemic, UTI and I need to "cough up" what I have in my lungs (??? ) and remain calm... don't dorget the remain calm.. Honestly, I feel more puzzled than before.. The fluids did make me feel a lot better, but I didn't get an explanation. The ER doctor was asking me to tell him the difference between the different WLS out there because he wasn't sure which one was mine.. At first he I think he thought I was having a panick attack, which I probably was, because I had so much going on.. He said my blood work came back fine so he didnt feel the need to do a EKG. I didnt even had an X-ray done. He just listened to what I said and asked me to take deep breathes. . On my discharge papers it says I went in for ABDOMINAL pain, and that I had an EKG done.. I am more confused then before and exhausted. I'm gonna add pictures of my rash, which now it's also in my hands, arms and spreading to my stomach.. Maybe someone can tell me if they've experienced this.. oohh and when I ask about the rash, he said it should go away on its own or ask my doctor if I can take benadryl... Thank you everyone for putting up with my many many problems..

Well, I'm glad you went to the ER, though it doesn't seem like they were very helpful. How does he not at least know the difference between types of wls??! I would definitely question why they put EKG on your discharge papers, maybe cutting corners? I'd definitely make sure they don't bill you for that. Actually, if it were me, I'd call the ER right now and tell them it says EKG on your discharge sheet and you want to make sure you weren't supposed to get one.

That rash definitely looks like hives to me...I get them frequently for all sorts of crazy reasons (sun, wind, plants, stress, the list goes on). Benadryl will help, but I'm not sure you can take it with sleeve...?

Sounds like the most important thing is to start trying to cough that stuff up. Big, deep coughs. If it doesn't feel like anything is moving when you cough, maybe sit in a steamy bathroom for 5 - 10 minutes, then try again.

I'm glad you're seeing your regular doctor on Tuesday. Sounds like you need to talk to an expert.

Thanks for updating us, and I hope you feel better soooooooon!

Thanks so much for going to ER!!! I cannot believe what you experienced!!! I'm completely amazed. I'm 14 months post-op and your symtons do not sound good. I'm really puzzled as you are. I do know that if you have a leak your heartrate goes up. You shouldn't be in pain at this time after your surgery. Have you ever been told you were anemic before? If I were you, I would do everything in my power to talk directly to your surgeon. They should be on call for emergencies. They should have given you an X-ray. Just wow!!! If your anemic where is the blood going? I'm confused. Stay in this forum and hopefully somebody has some better advice than what I can give you. Also you can search your symtoms at the top and read post that have been made with your symtoms .

Hey guys, I am 6 weeks out today and have developed some abnormal sensations. Right after surgery the only indication I had that there was gas in my torso was a pain in my left side when I tried to take a deep breath. That was it. I seem to have progressed normally but the other day I started to experience pain from my stomach every time I swallowed something and immediately after I burped. This got worse yesterday but seems to have eased off a little today, although it's still there. It seemed to start after I accidentally ate my lunch too fast and was nearly sick. My temperature is normal and I am sure this is all gas related but why at this stage? Im sure the pain is my stomach being stretched and am worried this might permanently stretch it. Any advice? Has anyone else had this? It's putting me off eating.

Daily Update: Hello!! I slept so much yesterday and felt so good. Was able to eat some grilled soft chicken.. so coughing is sooo not good!! What is all this stuff I'm vomiting/coughing out?!?! Mucus and bile.. Im even scared to brush my teeth!! My gag reflux is horrible.. anything that makes me cough makes me spit this out. I cough once, everything comes up and bam!! There it goes.. I refuse to believe this is normal!! (Lol.. I'm sure it is but I really HATE the throwing up feeling). I still feel pressure in my chest. You know like when you sleep on your side or on your stomach for hours and hours and your chest hurts from all the pressure on it and it feels so tight.. that's how I feel.. heavy pressure tightness.. I don't know how else to describe it.. my "rash" continues to spread and benadryl hasn't worked so far.. Tomorrow I go to surgeon and I told my husband if anything happens between today and tomorrow, DO NOT take me to the hospital I went to Saturday.. lol :)

Well I'm glad ur feeling a little better. I would say all that crap coming up is normal. I can almost guarantee u didn't bring home that breathing thing and practice taking deep breaths everyday!!! :) we use our stomach muscles for so much. Because of the soarness from surgery u don't breath in deep like we normally do....or cough. All that crap builds up in ur lungs... that's how u get pneumonia!!! Its a good thing that its coming up!!! I go back to work Oct 14th. U still going back on Monday? We both gonna be some hot skinny b****'s at our branch together! !!

Well, I'm back in hospital. Called my surgeon after a terrible night and was advised to l attend outpatients as an emergency walk-in. From there I was admitted and have undergone a barrage of tests. Turns out I have a build up of Fluid under my left lung. They are going to drain it either today or tomorrow. I was sooo looking forward to the soft food stage and an now back to nil by mouth. :-(

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
