Wheetsin 714 Posted January 20, 2007 Ok...so I first heard about the Lapband about a week ago and I can't get my mind off of it. I have been doing some research on the web. I am from Montreal, Canada. I am reading and seeing how many people did this and think to myself can I...should I... Yes, I had that debate for 5 years. And now all I ask is, "Why didn't I do it then?" but it also comes down to how much does this cost. I haven't seen cost anywhere...can someone tell me how much it costs.... In Canada... there's an area here specifically for Candians. Not that you aren't WELCOME to post anywhere, but most Americans won't be able to tell you Candian costs. If you post your question about cost there, you'll probably get at least MORE answers, if not MORE accurate. In the US costs range from about (USD) 9k to about 20k, plus, minus, and everywhere in between. how do we do payments Some surgeons offer their own financing. Some people use third party financers. Some even mortgage their homes or take out lines of credit. For me personally, I was prepared to pay out of pocket (hubby and I have the discretionary funds and were going to pay lump sum) but my insurance company ended up paying for it. and where do you recommend it is best do do thid procedure. You'll get so many different answers here. A lot of people who are self pay will go to Mexico because it's cheaper. I personally wouldn't go to Mexico, for a few different reasons, but that doesn't mean it isn't the right choice for others. Some people go to EUrope because it's cheaper, or because that's where they find surgeons with the specialties they're looking for. My PERSONAL advice - research the different surgeons, their statistics, and their claims. Then meet or talk to as many as possible, go with whomever you get the best feeling about BUT, more important than that, go where you can get aftercare. Aftercare is CRITICAL, and if you travel beyond your everyday abilities, you may have a hard time finding aftercare without going through the same trip each time.
