Does anyone feel like it wont happen?

I think it is very important to have goals in mind. Some NSV's, some scale/BMI. You need to have big overall goals, But you also need to have some that are very realistic and attainable.

It really helps if you take a big weight loss or BMI number and break it into quarters or eighths or tenths. That way, if you have trouble along the way, you have smaller victories to motivate you.

YES! I was just about to start a new discussion when I saw your post. I look at all of the timelines for others who have lost a lot of weight and can't help thinking' date=' "Wow, can that actually happen for me?" One of my biggest fears is that I will go through all of this, permanently alter my anatomy & lifestyle and still not lose enough weight for it to have been worth it. I mean seriously. I can lose/gain 10-15 pounds in a week just by a change in my monthly cycle! I have over 200 pounds to lose, so the idea of being 100 pounds lighter in a year seems like fantasy sometimes. Some days it's like my surgery date can't come fast enough (Oct.23) and other days I feel like I want to delay it indefinitely. I don't mean to sound negative or uncommitted, but I actually have a hard time believing significant weight loss is possible for me since I have been so heavy for so long.[/quote']

I have trouble with the long term goal portion because how do I know my body can lose 135 pounds? If I set it as my end result and it doesn't happen, I have failed yet again. I like the breakdown part.

I friend if mine had this saying, "how do you eat an elephant?.... One bite at a time!!" He meant that to look at a task that is really large you complete it one step at a time. Celebrate the intirim goals, that will give you victories and help keep motivated!! Plus its nice to have wins!!!

In our cases if we have 100 pounds to lose, and set 10-10# wieght loss minigoals and we only lose 90 pounds, thats is still damn good!! Do we meet our ultimate goal, no, but we reached 9 minigoals, have 9 victories and still lost 90pounds!!! Plus we probably had a few NSV's along the way!!! Thats awesome and pretty good!! We would all be that much healthier and skinnier and better off!!!

Every large task I have undetaking since, i have looked at the same way.

Thanks for sharing that. I worry that I will. Not have the stamina long term to keep it off once I reach goal (if I reach goal). I'm sleeved Oct. 22.

I feel the same way, as I imagine most yo-yo'ers do. To be in the 220's would be awesome, but the thought of Onederland? It's almost too exciting to hope for. I've not been under 200 since I was 19. I can only imagine the positive changes physically, socially, and emotionally of losing a whole person! I also want to doubt it but at the same time I just want to rush through and get started on the losing and surgery. I'm ready to live.

I am doing EMDR with some traditional talk/cognitive therapy. I am being treated for PTSD (depression and anxiety because of the PTSD). I don't take any meds; personal choice. I manage my issues with behavior modification. I started going once a week and had a few emergencies that I had to come in twice a week. I go once a month right now, but will readdress after surgery.

To understand why this works for me it helps to understand why I chose this route. I was sexually assaulted 15 years ago and didn't tell anyone. My way to making sure it didn't happen again was gaining weight, which I consistently did. Prior to being assaulted I rode horses professionally and was in great physical shape. I have tried to loose weight but would self sabitoage. Last year I reached this point that my weight was causing real physical restrictions. After loosing 30 pounds a male Soldier I work with made a comment of "noticed you are dropping weight and just wanted to let you know that I am really happy for you." I thanked him and went directly to the soda machine and drank a soda and mentally give up on my diet. I found my therapist a week later. My purpose was as to stop myself from self sabitoging. Through the process I discovered that I wanted to WLS.

The fact I did the hard work in therapy gives me the confidence to know I will be successful, but self aware enough to know that success will come with struggle. However, I have the tools in place to help me. I have a great therapist, a few close friends that understand what I am doing, and good behavior modifications to help.

I am so sorry. I can relate. My dad molested me and in college when I started to realize what really happen I started packing on the pounds. Then I worked hard and lost it all, was working out and riding my bike. I got sexually harassed by two different bosses within a three month period and I just felt like what is the point if it is just going to make men treat me like shït?

Started binge eating and I have never been back to that weight since.

I have been in a lot of therapy and I hope that attention from men is not going to trigger me. But if it does I have my therapist to help me from trying to sabotage myself.

I too wonder if the rug will be pulled out. I have my approval letter but no date yet. This has been such a hard process. I just feel like UHC is doing whatever they can to keep me from having it and they aren't done yet.

That's how I feel too! When I did Weight Watchers the thought of setting a goal weight terrified me! I actually kept putting it off because I could not believe I could get to an ideal weight just with WW.

When I started reading about the surgery and seeing that other people who were like me with the same history, weight, eating patterns and thoughts actually got to be skinny? I had hope for the first time in fifteen years.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
