I am so excited someone in my pre-op group turned me on to this site! I have learned so much from so many of your entries and it's taken a little bit of my nervous edge off. My surgery is Febuary 5th and it is reassuring to have a ventue like this to express my concerns and hear about so many experiences. I look forward to sharing my progress with you and hearing all about yours.:)

Hey, I have only been here for 2 days, and I must say...this is a great site. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Feb. 5th, so are you doing the preop diet? I am curious about what you are doing. I will get Optifast, and wonder what that is like. Keep us posted on your progress!

Pamela

I am not on a pre-op diet, except the day before my surgery. I got a little nervous when I saw that on here and questioned the doctor's office. His nurse practicioner said it is important that I keep my exsiting weight and not to bindge eat or it could be an issue when I go in. I think every doctor is different, and even the post-op diet is a little different depending on doctors. Mine has you on a liquid diet for the first four weeks and possibly into week six, but my girlfriend started mushy food at the third week. Do you have a date yet?

I didn't have to do a pre-op diet either. I had surgery in nov 06. I was told not to eat after midnight before surgery. After surgery, 2 weeks liqued-2 weeks pureed- 2 weeks soft. My doc has performed many lap band surgeries. Where r u getting the surgery done and who's your doc?

Dr. Bertha is my doc and it is being prefromed at Morristown Memorial in NJ. How are things going for you? Is it everything you expected? Anything advice you could give? How has your progress been?

Hi JenL37 and welcome. I haven't been here for too long, but this site is filled with supportive and informative people. I find myself coming here alot. Congrats on your upcoming surgery! It will be here before you know. I am scheduled for January 30th. I am nervous and excited. I am having my surgery in Providence,RI. My doctor requires his patients to go on a 2 week liquid diet consisting of 3 Protein Shakes and 3oz of lean meat, chix,or fish and veggies. I started this on the 16th. So far,so good.Anyway, welcome and keep us posted on your journey.Best of luck to you.Gigi

My advice to you would be to listen to your doc and just read on and study this forum LBT. It is so informative and everyone has been very supportive. There are so many areas and topics, it has helped me alot. Also, my progress has been very slow. I'm only down 14lbs since my surgery in Nov. But i did make it through the holidays without gaining weight. So I'm happy about that. Remember that it is suppose to be a 2 year process so it will be a slow gradual loss. Keep that in mind. Keep me updated and I'll be here if you need to ask questions. Actually me and many others here;) . Take care, Kelley

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
