March 2007 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

It's been almost a week since my surgery now, and I feel pretty much back to normal today. I still have a little port side pain, but can sleep on my other side and get up much easier. Tried to shave my legs today, but had a little trouble reaching the outside area on my left leg...oh well. Would like to know when I can have a bath again though??? Started walking 15 min 2 days post op, and am gradually increasing each day. My little weiner dog is trying to figure out why I'm walking so slowly.....when we go for walks she thinks were competing in the ididerod or something.

I'm so surprised with how little liquid is keeping me satisfied. I was finally able to get down 60 ozs yesterday, but before that I was only able to drink less than 40 ozs. I was a bit concerned as calories were under 500 and not enough Protein. Yesterday I was able to get 64 g protein and 950 cals in to 60 ozs of liquids. The nurse it will be easier when the swelling goes down. The worst part was the gas pain and swelling the 2nd and 3rd day. I have not thrown up, pb'd, or slimed, which I am very grateful for, and I'm down 13 lbs already!

I made some wonderful Soup today! Tomato Soup with protein supplement, then mixed in Tomato basil fetta cheese, melted, and pureed. It was heaven! Other things that have been very helpful: heating pad, Lortab, anti nausea medication, Bolthouse Farms perfectly protein vanilla chai tea - yum (found it at Wal Mart), Medifast meal supplements, Special K2O lemon twist protein Water, homemade broths I made pre surgery, gasX, Isopure mixed with cranberry juice (it's gross plain), Citrical Creamy Bites Calcium supplements (they're like desert), Flintstones chewables, and GNC unflavored Protein Powder.< /p>

Some people have described having that "oh no, what have I done" moment after surgery. I was expecting that as well, but haven't felt that one bit! Best wishes to those having surgery this week!! You will feel such relief when it's all done and over. The waiting is soooo hard!

Did any of you find yourself obsessively cleaning your houses before your bandday?? I get banded tomorrow and I am cooking and cleaning like I will be out of town for a week - even though I am coming home the same day.

I even seperated out enough outfits for each of my kids for a week despite the fact that all three of them are perfectly capable of dressing themselves without my intervention.

It seems like when I scheduled my surgery there was so much time and now it is tomorrow and I am freaking out a little bit. I am mostly excited but also nervous.

That would imply that I EVER cleaned my house. I live in a dog hair/dust invested pit, lol.

And laundry? I only washed what I KNEW I was going to need during the next week - I have a huge pile of dirty laundry on my bedroom floor right now :)

This is really super important for people who are not banded yet!!!

I was banded on March 1st and even though very excited to get banded still there was a side of me that was skeptical that this was still not a "permanent weight loss" and I most likely would have the same results as I had experienced in the past with WW, JC, Atkins etc. etc. etc. But, still with that in mind I was still willing to try anything to be healthy!

I am 9 days post op and today I will tell you what I have eaten and my whole state of mind...

coffee w/cream 630am ~felt full or rather satiated~did not feel like I wanted to eat, because donuts and muffins were offered to me and protocol habit would have been to eat some, and it is not that I had the "will power" but truly did not want any.

930 not feeling "full" anymore; but not hungry either but knew I should eat something I drank 8 oz. of bariatric essentials = 20 grams of Protein

11am family went out to breakfast~I was not hungry but I want to experience the feeling of eating out and the excitement of being waited on etc. I was curious on how I would feel and what I would order. So I ordered a cup of coffee with cream and 2 scrambled eggs SOFTLY scrambled. The waitress looked puzzled (because we are regulars~and she knows what I order usually) We all sat there and chit chatted until our Breakfast arrived. DH ordered the Country BIG breakfast, daughter ordered pancakes with Peanut Butter (my weakness and favorite). I ate 1/2 of my 2 scrambled eggs and I was done! I felt full~satiated etc. (I know this is kinda hard to believe~but I am telling you I am in a learning curve and still in prove me wrong mode regarding the band. I did take 1/2 bite of pancake w/peanut butter with a swig of coffee (praying togod that itwould not get stuck) and with that one bite I was really really really full and SATIATED. My DH finished my egg and we left. I did not feel left out or deprived. I was so full and happy, and tickled that the band came through for me again.

We went shopping to an outside Mall because the weather is fantastic on the West Coast right now.

About 2 o'clock I knew I needed to drink my crystal light, but was not hungry yet, but knew that I should start thinking about I needed to eat something.

At 3 o'clock we were at Walmart and I felt~just kinda puny but didnot think I was hungry and went over to the cheese section and ate a whole "string cheese light" and I immediately felt better and was lively again.

It is 415pm and I just had another 8 oz. of bariatrix essentials 20 gram protein and am cooking turkey spaghetti with whole what penne Pasta. I probably will not eat any of the penne pasta and eat the spag. sauce like a thick hearty Soup.< /p>

I am having trouble with not cooking as much food and I hate to waste so I am cooking normally and taking food over to my elderly neighbor daily. She is elated and I really don't care if she throws it away, as long as I don't see it go to waste make my child or dogs eat it.

Wow I am so happy with this band! I know I am not eating as strict as some of you have to 9 days after surgery, but my theory is this band needs to be a give and take with me. I chew chew chew chew chew everything to a mush before I swallow, so basically I really am pureeing everything just as a blender would do it. I did PB once but totally out of unconsceintious behavior and thinking I would be okay.

My blood pressure is down, and now I don't regret having to get my blood pressure taken every time I go to Walmart. I was absolutely normal today. Woohoo!!!

When I was at the Mall I was offered "tastes" just like when you are in costco, you probably know what I mean. And prior to banding I was the one that said I was getting a second one for my child or DH. I don't even have the desire to eat one! I still want to dab my finger for flavor but don't want to swallow. Wow I am so excited.....

It is amazing at how little food you eat that makes you feel full.

I just wanted to give you my experience, and if you follow my posts I am one of the ones who has a very tight relationship with food. My Dr. said when he looked at my stomach his guess was that it could have held 8 cups of food, I kept warning him I was a volume eater.

You guys are in for such a treat!!

I will be out of the loop for a little (3 days)- not sure if I will have internet access. I will be taking my laptop with me. Some of you know, but for those who don't...WE ARE GOING CAMPING. Some of you may know the Yogi Bear Park, there is one in Waller, TX and we are taking the kids for Spring Break.

The Weather is suppose to be bad though, 80% chance of rain Monday, 70% on Tuesday, and 50% on Wednesday. So we are bringing the board games.

For all the bandsters on Monday (12th), Tuesday (13th) and Wednesday (14th)...GOOD LUCK! I hope I can post. My family knows that I'm banded so that helps out - they made sure that I had what I can eat...But I already have it all.

I'm glad to see all are doing well.

hi

well tomorrow is the big day for me. I am very nervous. It seems like people have such different post-op instructions. I have been on mostly Liquid Protein for 2 weeks pre0op then i will have Clear Liquids for 2 weeks and then mushies for two weeks. But some people seem to be on solids almost right after surgery. I am a bit confused by this.

and yes, I cleaned out closet and drawers it was wierd, sort of like the nesting instict before having babies:) And that is a very long time ago for me.

I will stay overnight at the hospital and hopefully I will post a pot-op update on Tuesday. Can't wait to be banded and home again.

Mags.

Thanks for listening to my pitty-party re: DH and his lack of motovation in helping me run this household. He's really not THAT bad, well, maybe he is.

I'm PMSing and can get quite grumpy and sometimes can't keep my mouth shut!

Surgery is Wed. 3/14 I keep thinking I'm not prepared enough for this huge step. I think I have everything on my list, all the Protein, clear liquids, comfort items, groceries in the fridge, laundry is all washed.

I keep thinking in 3 days things will be different, can I made the big transition?

I know what I have to do to make this tool work, Im relying on the LB surgery to help me do this.

Congratulations to all the banders in March that have had surgery......

Good luck to all of us ready to take that plunge yet this month!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

      2. Selina333

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
