March 2007 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

I never though I would say this, but I cannot wait until the day comes when I can eat solid food again, because I am craving grilled chicken salad or a veggie delite sub on wheat bread (from Subway) like no tomorrow! Right now I am on full liquid, and I don't mind the cream Soups (outside of straining them after cooking *sigh*) and the milkshakes I make, among the other things that I like that are allowed, but gee, it will be good to have real meat and veggies again.

I am on 60mg of Prozac for both depression and PMS symptoms as well as Topamax for partial seizures, Zantac for GERD and Synthroid for low thyroid function. I was on four other meds for cardiac problems but was recently taken off of them when the condition started reversing itself when I changed my habits. I am hoping someday to be off meds altogether!:clap2:

Is anyone swallowing pills whole or are you crushing and dissolving in Water? I am also on Topamax for Migraines. It is a very small pill but I crush it in fear it will get stuck. It's nasty tasting, I just want to down the pill.

Hi Linda! How have you been doing? Glad to see you posting again. I have been swallowing pills whole since the day after surgery. I had no problems getting them down. I think it depends on how much swelling you have. I also think it may have a little to do with the size band you have.

I've also been swallowing pills since the day after surgery. I really haven't had any issues with the pills.

So I spoke to a nutritionist yesterday and she Oked me to start on some yogart or Protein supplements to help me with the hunger pangs I've been having. I had a 1/4c of yogart smoothie last night and it was sooooo good!

I'm really dying for an egg though :)

Hi Tammy,

I am doing much better, it took about 4 days without using any pain meds to be able to get back into the swing of things but now I am a week out and feeling pretty good. Due to the nature of my job I will not return to work for two more weeks so I have some real down time to just heal and enjoy the spring. Thanks for getting back to me and I will try to swallow my pills tonight with out crushing them. Good Luck to all our day 3/28 and 3/29 people I will be saying a prayer for you all!!! :straight

Hi Sue. He makes you weight 8 weeks for what, a fill or food? I am 3 weeks post-op. I get to start mushies, soft veggies, tuna or chicken salad, ect. today. Finally! I love my veggies! My doc makes us wait 6 weeks for a fill. After this week I can start solids a little at a time, as tolerated. Hang in there, you have to keep thinking about the long haul. Once this period of time is over you will be so glad, and you never have to go through all that again.

I take about 12 pills at night and 3 in the morning and have not had a problem getting them down. I too was worried about this and stopped taking my meds after the surgery but I started to get more depressed, so I decided to just go for it.

Hi Everyone! I got banded yesterday and am doing great. I did some burping/puking at the hospital when I got up, so I think that helped tremendously with the gas pains. They didn't want me to go home yesterday, but I talked them into it anyways. I've not had trouble swallowing pills, took Ibuprofen last night and today, don't like pain meds, and haven't had a problem getting them down. I'm also not having trouble if I forget and drink regular instead of sipping. I went onto the www.lapbandlifestyle.com website and they recommended a cookbook titled "Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery" by Patt Levine. It is a paperback book and has recipes based on what stage you are pre/post op and supposedly these are recipes that the whole family can enjoy. You can get it from any bookstore apparently. Just thought I'd share. Good luck to everyone that has been or is going to be banded. It's not as bad as you might think, hopefully!

That is FANTASTIC! I just bought a similar book Before and After: Living and Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery"

Susan Maria Leach; Hardcover; it is similar, book and cook book combined and I'm very excited about reading it, hope it gets here in time to take to the beach with me!

I am so excited, and have to return to school a couple days after surgery so I hope I recover as well as you! I did have a C-Section so I hope that helps

Good luck

My dr. said I could start taking my St. John's Wort and my tiny thyroid pill a few days after surgery but to take one and wait 15 minutes or so before taking the next. No problems with that.

Hi everyone,

I am new to this group. I have been meaning to post something and it seems like everytime I start one of my kids needs me. So here I go...

I am getting my surgery tomorrow. I think it is finally hitting home. Today is the last day of drinking diet coke...possibly eating white bread, sticky rice, some Pasta etc...

I am not looking foward to the liquid stage. I have stocked up on everything recommended, hopefully I can keep myself satisfied. It is really hard to try to lose weight right before this. Thankfully my doctor only recommended I lose five pounds. I compare this part of it to asking an alcoholic to quit drinking for a few weeks before going to rehab! :heh:

I am very excited that I am doing this for myself and my family. I am looking forward to being an active mom who is a good example for her kids!!!

Kristen

I am 3 weeks post op. I don't have any trouble taking pills. I take one that is huge, so I cut that one in half. I have not been filled yet either, so I don't know if that will make a difference.

So you did not hear this from me.....

Take an egg and softly softly softly softly scramble it and keep it "wet".

Take the smallest bites in the whole world and chew like forever until it turns into the size of a piece of sand. The bite sizes should be no more than 1/4 tsp at a time. Shhhhhh our secret! But you did not hear it from me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
