I'm wondering if anyone besides me is constantly burping (surgery was Monday). Everytime I drink anything, including Water, boullion, clear Protein Drinks, etc. (I'm still on clear liquids), I burp for hours. Could it be from drinking too fast? I don't feel any restriction so I just drink as usual. I've tried slowing down but I still get it--but it may be from hours ago when I drank too fast. Anyway, any suggestions or similar experiences?

You are not alone! I'm burping like crazy, too!

In the begining I was like a burp machine!!!!! I seems to have gotten much better and I am able to work with it. I do still burp a lot more than usual.

Love your quote of The greatest cause of failure....

I have it up on my desk.

good luck:D

Did all my pre-op testing and paperwork at hospital today and then Dr. office called this afternoon saying there was blood in my urine and wanted to know if I was close to my cycle (I'm not). I just got the message and now the Dr. office is closed for the weekend. I'm scheduled to have my surgery next Friday. Since this is probably just a UI, do you think they'll postpone me? :-(

They might want to wait until after you finish a cycle of antibiotics. But if I have learned anything it is that all the surgeons are different.

I feel bad for those of you burping. Luckily I haven't had that problem more than a few times. I tend to get a big drink of Water in my mouth and then swallow it slowly. Well today it went down the wrong way and ouch ouch ouch. That wasn't good.

Was able to make it to the supermarket today. Anyone else having problems standing up straight? I'm sort of in this stooped position until I can inch my way standing sorta straight. That's when the pain is at it's most intense.

For those of you who have steristrips...do you cover them with anything? I'm worried that they'll come off sooner than they are meant to.

How are all your cravings going? My strong craving for a hot dog has subsided but now I am really really really dying for some hot chicken wings. :)

You guys are super!

Medge, they may not delay you if it isn't severe. Drink plenty of Water this weekend. They may want you to come in again and give them another sample. Call them early mon. a.m. to see what you have to do. Keep us posted. Good Luck.

Hi Guys

Banded on Tuesday 3 20. I truly feel like I have had an upper body c section.

I am taking another week off of work, I work for a school which starts spring break on the 30th so I will have a nice recovery time.

I have the chills, has anyone else had them? I do not have a fever.

Also I feel so tight on top but my "Bottom stomache" is growling horribly.

Take your temperature to make sure you don't have a fever, if you do have one or get one, call your surgeon he may/may not call you in a prescription. You may be getting a cold; completely unrelated to the band.

Yes I remember getting the chills, and also my eyes burned (which to me that says fever, but never got one) You went through surgery, I know you are super woman but your body needs to recover. Good for you for taking the next week off of work and then spring break, you will be ready to go when school is back in session.

You are still swollen so you should feel "tight" on top, your stomach will always make gurggley noises from now on; mine is making them right now, just the personality of the bands~~~~~~~~~~ :)

Take it easy and relax... enjoy this "down time"

Keep us posted...

Did all my pre-op testing and paperwork at hospital today and then Dr. office called this afternoon saying there was blood in my urine :-(

Just FYI and maybe completely unrelated; but at times when I am spiking my weight at 280# and I am 5'3" and my blood pressure is not under control unbeknownst to me I have blood in my urine. It is called Protein uria (sp?) and it a concern with my doctor and they monitor it and that concerns me which starts me on another yo-yo diet, then it goes away and I stop dieting and I gain all me weight back and the cycle starts again. I also get it if I am attempting to do the Atkins diet. So if you are doing high protein right now~there is your answer.

But then again it could be a UI. Both are benign and I think can be dealt with before Friday, drink Cranberry juice.< /p>

Well, I'm very impatient and didn't want to worry about it all weekend so I went to the "Neighborhood Dr." who doesn't require appointments, just kind of a walk-in thing, and they tested and said I did have UI and so now I'm on antibiotics. Should be all cleared up by next Friday. :-)

Hey guys..

Been a busy week with little time for me to write. I have been wanting to answer someones statement about maybe they did not think *this* through. *SECOND THOUGHTS* I so understand where you are coming from and I have indeed thought this way. I have never smoked or drank so eating was my recreation. When people could enjoy a nice glass of wine mine was a lovely dessert. I am finially in the stage of my life(kids raised) where I can afford any restaurant and what do I do. I am missing my best friend (food) who was there for me in any mood to give me strokes. Some people are able to have their pleasure in a couple of tastes but I am a all or nothing girl and for a while I am going to have to go cold turkey (parden the pun) on some comfort foods. Yes I resent this **BIG TIME** I am also mad that I brought this on myself..keep thinking if only I would have done this or that!!

I also resent not being able to get out of the car without shuffing like an old lady because of arthritous. I resent not being able to get up of the floor when I play with my grandson, having to shop in the big ladies ugly clothes, being treated liked I am a moran because of being heavy, being told have you tried to diet etc etc. Well you all get the picture. I do resent this but I will enjoy my second chance at being the real me that is screaming to get out of this body. My body is only a shell of the thin healthy person that is inside. I am ready to meet her again. Sorry for the ramble...hope this makes some sense!

Hi Janine. Welcome to Bandland. Was your surgery an open surgery or laproscopic? The more you move and walk, the better. Walk as often as possible. It is nice that you will have a good break for recovery. Don't do any lifting, but otherwise move about a lot. A heating pad does wonders too. Hope your recovery is quick. Take care.

Sugarbear and Pam

Thanks for the encouragement.

I did have it laporospicaly.

My doctor did not have me go on a pre surgery diet.

I had an extremely fatty liver, and sleep apnea which in consequence had me in surgery for 2 1/2 hours 5 hours in recovery, and ended up in ICU.

I have 6 incisions and they had to do alot of tugging so my stomach over the port is black and blue. The doctor said they had a very hard time getting around the liver.

I have heard that maybe pre dieting does not work, but most doctors require it and I have not seen people talk much about fatty livers.

I am really going to question my doctor about his reasoning.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
