2 weeks post op - need advice

Recommended Posts

So I am two weeks post op and made it to Onederland today :). Very exciting!! I did great with surgery and the two days in hospital. However, this has been very challenging both mentally and emotionally. Each day seems to get a little better though. I'm thankful for this forum and all the great discussion and advice. On that note, how about some advice for getting in more liquids? I'm not doing the best in that department. Water actually makes me sort of nauseous, is this common?? I'm also on puréed foods, any suggestions other than yogurt, cottage cheese, etc?

I heard that Wendy's chili put in a blender is high in Protein and tastes great.

Crystal lite, ice tea, popsicles, Jello. That was what I was told. It all counts at liquid.< /p>

I couldn't do straight Water, it's actually difficult for your "new" stomach to cope with. Put a drop of something in it ( I put a dash of sugar free squash) and it goes down easier. Room temp liquids also seem easy to drink too. As Irs says, there lots of things that count as liquids - use them all!

Along the lines of crystal light, my favorite thing to add to Water is the sugar free Hawaiian Punch fruit juicy red flavor. A few years ago I tried about 20 different flavors of mix, and that was by far my favorite. It might be too intense for some people, or too sweet, but for me it is just perfect.

I still have trouble with Water. it just feels heavy or something. chewing ice helps me get in a lot of my fluids-- and tea.

Also check the nutrition forum>>> recipies for the pureed phase

Congrats on getting to Onderland!

I find that room temp Water makes me nauseous and I take cold water without any problems. I am 6 weeks post op and only since last week I am able meet my Fluid goal. It will get better with time.

Use a medicine cup. Fill it up every half an hour. Sip on it till it is gone...then repeat. If you do this all day, you will be getting the required amount of fluids everyday. Also....as for getting the Protein in....it is hard in the beginning...but at Walmart they have these Protein Shots. They have 27 grams of protein in each one. I would get them really cold....almost frozen, and then drink those. The fruit punch is the best flavor. They aren't the greatest tasting, but that is why I got them really cold. It makes it a lot easier to get the required protein in. Good luck! :)

What I would do , boil chicken with veggies add your own spices . I would just drink the broth and maybe eat some of the veggies .

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
