I went to dr. Aceves and was very VERY impressed with both the hospital and team... U will not be disappointed if you decide on him as your surgeon... Let me know if you have anymore questions :)

I went to him this past March. My experience was met and exceeded my expectations.

There are quite a few threads on here with reviews, feedback, and detailed accounts. I recommend checking them out.

He and his team are simply amazing. I'm 2 months out and the whole process has been more then I could have asked for.

Good luck getting a US MD to follow you after surgery. You will need frequent lab testing, like every 3 months in the first year to check on deficiencies. Then there is nutritional counseling if your having problems. At my surgeon's office, you will pay a $500 transfer fee to get to see him which insurance doesn't pay and every NUT visit is $60. I see my NUT every month and I have access to her by email daily. I'm confident there are good surgeons in Mexico..... but its the aftercare that will keep you successful....imho.

I have had no problems and do not plan on going every 3 months for labs. I had type 2 diabetes so my dr. will test me every 6 months to check and see if it is still gone!!! I have gotten info from a nut in Mexico and am progressing very nicely Thank you. The sky is not falling and I would encourage those who do not have insurance to research and ask questions but do not be afraid. This surgery has changed my life!!!

Dr Aceves and the hospital he works in is AWESOME. I've had surgery there and my mother who is terrified of Mexico went and had sleeve. She is a nurse by profession and she was very impressed with hospital. The entire staff is amazing and will take great care of you.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
