So, now that I'm almost 3 months out and down 37 lbs since surgery, 61 lbs total since i started in April, ppl have started to really notice my weight loss. So many people ask me how I'm doing it, and I hate that I feel so weird being honest that I had weight loss surgery. I always feel like they are judging me. I know I shouldn't care, but it bothers me that I do! Does anyone else feel this way?

I just set my date but feel you should not be worried at all. You did what you need to do for you, and if it works who cares what people think or judge. It can't possibly be as bad a when you were overweight I would imagine :)

No one has to know everything about your medical history. That's why we have HIPPA laws for patient confidentiality and privacy. You could just tell them that you want to be proactive about your health and are making better choices every day (which is true) or.........you could just ask them, "Why do you want to know?" Then, when they give some feeble reason, just tell them it's personal and you are not comfortable talking about it. You don't have to lie, but you don't have to tell everything you know.

Tell folks you are watching your calorie intake and exercise. Both true.

I too am just about three months out. June 24th, down 41 lbs. and it shows. I don't feel uncomfortable sharing. I do however wait to be asked. If they don't ask I don't offer. But when asked I tell the truth. Nobody has come right out and asked "hey did you have that weight loss surgery?" Its more like "so are you working out a lot? Then I share. Eventually everyone finds out. I made a choice and feel good about. it was almost a year from my first bariatric surgery meeting until my surgery. gave it a lot of thought, learned a lot and chose to move forward. I'm happy with my decision thus far, and sharing is easy for me. I hope it gets easier for you and anyone else that may feel weird about being honest.

Well I am 8 months out and I am very open about the surgery. I am a very open person all together. I see it has if they don’t like it too bad it’s my life I did it for me not them. I find the people that have the most issue with me having surgery are people that are overweight.

I feel that hiding things means you are embarrassed of said things. You made the decision to have the surgery. Only person that you need to worry about is yourself and making yourself happy. You this world you can’t make everyone happy so why try? I like when people get all puffed up over someone else’s opinions and choices in their lives.

Do you and be yourself. If people don’t like it screw them.

I am to the point now that people that knew me when I was 360lbs are saying I look sick. I am far from sick but they still have my old self pictured in their heads. I still have more weight to loose since I am only down to 220lbs but I feel great.

Hang in there don’t let the haters get to you.

I actually haven't run into any haters, at least they don't say anything to my face. Who knows what they say afterwards though. I know I shouldn't care, and you are right, I did this for me. I actually have two family members who are now thinking about doing the surgery themselves now that they've seen my progress. I am happy I did it and would never go back. Hopefully the awkwardness of telling people will decrease with time.

The awkwardness will decrease but do what you are comfortable with. I tell some people but not others. Not out of embarrassment or shame but because I wouldn't share any other personal info with them - so why this?

There's no right or wrong way to tackle this - only you know what's best for you. What works for one person doesn't always work for others. You've taken charge of your life having surgery, what you say about it is up to you and you alone.

Congratulations on your weight loss... Time to relax and enjoy the compliments heading your way!

I feel the same way. I originally didn't want to tell anyone but I ended up telling but only to those who ask me what I am doing. If they say I look great I just thank them but if they ask more then I tell

You can honestly say "I am on a doctor supervised weight loss program"

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
