Am I missing a stage?

Recommended Posts

I will be 15 days post op tomorrow and I go for my two week check up. I lost 17lbs thus far but I stalled out this week with only losing maybe 2lbs at the most. I blame it on not being as active as I was last week. However my question is according to my post op packet I was given I will be given the go ahead tomorrow (if all goes well) for the soft food stage. Any ideas or suggestions on meals? I see tuna and flaky fish as one of the items anything else. I am also confused do I eat 3 meals a day or little small meals thru out the day? I know I can ask at my appt tomorrow however I would like to get some feed back from my fellow sleevers on what worked for you.

See this is what I don't understand. Most people get to go on soft foods at 2 weeks but i was told to do the liquid diet for 4 weeks. Im so over the liquid diet....and would love to start the soft foods bc there is more of a variety of food to eat. Like scrambled eggs, chicken salad blended well etc.

Hello, I had two weeks of full liquids and yesterday just started my pureed diet. After two weeks of pureed then I advance to soft foods. I know many offices are different so I think it best to go by the directions of your nutritionist.

Every diet is different. I was full liquids 2 weeks and fork soft for 10 weeks than go back to a regular diet.

See I thought the same thing however when I explained to the nurse at the docs office that I was confused on because the NUT had one set of directions and they had another she explained that I need to follow their plan not the NUT. My question at that point why go to the NUT to begin with. Both plans are different.

My nutritionist and surgeon are in the same office - more of a combined effort. I would assume then to follow the guidance of your surgeon and let that be that lol

Here was my program...

Hospital stay: clear liquid diet

Week 1 & 2: liquid diet

Week 3: pureed phase

Week 4 & 5: soft food phase

Week 6 & beyond: 3 small meals with 2 Snacks - low calorie intake.

Very important to get at least 60 ounces of Water and hit your Protein intake daily.

Hope this helps!! Good luck.

Going forward they will ALL be small meals! Seriously tho, I've been doing 5 meals since surgery. I started out with them being 2.5 - 3 hours apart but found that to be too much so shortened it to 2 hours between meals.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
