I only weigh at doctor appointments. I lost 50 pounds with the band, and then drove myself crazy with weighing. I learned scales are a huge trigger for me. I tried for years to work through it. Then a few years ago (at age 38) I got rid of the scale. My weight stabilized at my lowest weight and stayed there for years. Best thing I ever did. This doesn't work for everyone, but it worked for me. Best two years of my life

I'm 4 weeks out from a revision and wondering how I will do it now. I have lost more weight and people are commenting. I have one more surgeon follow up appointment next week. After that I think I won't weight until/ if I drop down to a size 12 or something. I was a 16 in jeans pre sleeve.

OP, Good luck finding a out what works for you. You will lose weight! If you think a certain number will upset you, you can just give it more time. The longer you wait the happier you will be. Like others said, there is no wrong way to do it. Just finding what works best for you.

I weigh every two weeks. That way I don't get freaked out by little day to day fluctuations' date=' or non-fluctuations.

That said, right now I am following my surgeon's extremely regimented post op plan. I have met my goals every day, and not had even a bite of something off the plan. So I am not worried about whether I am doing something wrong that might be causing me to have less than optimal weight loss.

When I get six months from surgery, I will have more freedom with what I eat. I plan to start weighing daily then, but doing a weekly average and having the weekly average be what I actually record and track on myfitnesspal.[/quote']

Very good post, exactly how I think. The scale fluctuates very easily and weighing in daily would drive me nuts.

In my opinion if you just make yourself suffer thru what the nutritionist makes you do, then you should be losing wt. I don't have time to be obsessed with numbers. This diet already wastes too much time. So I do what I'm told and let go of the outcomes.

I'm 8 days post op and haven't seen a scale since surgery but noticed my clothes feeling looser, I lost 14lb on my pre op diet. Tomorrow is my first follow up and I'm excited and nervous to see since I'm used to the scale going up. I'm afraid if I bought a scale I'd obsess. At this point I have decided I will only weigh in at the doctors with my follow ups. I hope that's a good choice.

I am afraid to weigh myself. I guess afraid the scale isn't moving. Does everyone weigh weekly etc?

Weekly??!!!!! Oh no, I weigh every single morning and have since my pre-op diet. Close to 3.5 years now.

My doctor recommends it, it is easier to lose two or three pounds than it is to lose eight or nine. I know ME, and I know how quickly nine and ten pounds can 'appear'. You can't let it mess with your head, the scale is going to go up and down.

I never 'cheated' not one time at all when I was losing, and I never had a plateau like most folks do, BUT, the scale still went up and down, the entire time. It was like a game to me, weighing, it still is. I'd lose a pound or two, then gain a pound or two the next morning, up and down, sometimes for a week, then it would be gone and on to the next pound or two.

That is how MY BODY did it. I've talked to others that experience the same thing.

I'm one of those all or nothing types. Before surgery, I NEVER stepped on a scale unless I was forced to! Now, I like seeing where I am at from day to day and actually have tracked my weight since surgery. It's interesting to see the weight plateaus and losses. When I am in a plateau, I can refer back and see when I should come out of it. For me, it's been a handy tool rather than an obsession.

Yes, I have what I call my "dashboard" - just like on my truck.

I weigh daily

I weigh and/or measure my food

I log all food on line to track calories and Protein

The numbers keep me aware of what is going on "under the hood"

If something is off, then I need to 'change' something. It is how MY

mind works. This is my new life, as natural to me as breathing.

I have been maintaining for over 2.5 years. This works for me.

This is not a diet, it's a new way of life. It's forever, this is not like WW's where it gets old and we stop going to meetings, or Medifast - none of those are possible forever. My dietitian nor my doctor MADE me do anything.

We cannot diet our entire lives, although i did it off and on for 30 years. :) We had 85% of our stomachs removed. The doctor did his job and now it is all up to us. There is no end date. I feel like I eat like a naturally thin person.

I am not on a diet. For the first time in my life, I feel no guilt after eating something. This makes it possible for me to make wise choices and I can resist if I need or want to. I weigh and/or measure my food and I log everything on line....i have my entire family hooked on logging now. It takes no time really. It is a whole different mind set.

I think that's why I 100% know its for me. Being able to change my bad habits and control myself is what I need most. If it were just that easy to not eat so much, we wouldn't be here now. It's a tool that we will have forever!

I don't think she meant diet in the way of WW...she meant diet in terms of the change in eating

Last time I weighed I was pleasantly surprised. So maybe I will or maybe I won't. Like someone already said I'm not going to worry about outcomes. I'm just gonna work with my tool

I lose and gain about 3-4 lbs and then it drops for a while and then lose and gain again. Good to know that others have the same pattern. I was getting worried that I was doing something wrong.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
